Unrequited Love In A Midsummer Night's Dream

Love is one of the most important aspects in modern day life, people can love anything and everything. Although a lot of the time love seems cruel many don’t realize how important it is for mankind to send a receive love. A strong bond between families is important even through good times and bad, love can bring people together yet also push them apart. Sometimes when two people love another they do not let anything come in between them while other times their bond is weak and easily broken. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream love is portrayed in many different ways from Helena to Demetrius, Lysander to Hermia, and Oberon to Titania. The link between Helena and Demetrius is very transparent, he once loved her while she still loves him. Inside the text of A Midsummer Night’s Dream we read many references to a past in which Helena and Demetrius once loved each other. As the story progresses we see that Demetrius is clearly no longer interested in Helena and he now wants to love Hermia. Their relationship keeps the adventure of the lovers through
Oberon loves Titiana and he is loyal to her but she is consistently distracted by other beings. It may be seen as unrequited love but it is not that Titiana doesn’t love Oberon it seems as though that she just isn’t as interested for she has other things to attend to. Oberon has eventually had enough and orders Puck to apply the sort of love potion to her eyes while she is asleep so she will love him once again. By mistake she falls in love with Bottom when he has an ‘’ass’ head’’. Oberon eventually feels guilty enough to reverse the effects.
