Character Essay
Imagine your ride-or-die, your other half, the person you have grown up and shared so many memories with, unexpectedly dies. In the book, Untwine by Edwidge Danticat, Giselle Boyer, and her family´s life is suddenly flipped upside down. Her family and she encountered a car accident. That results in Giselle having to deal with the loss of her identical twin sister, Isabelle.
Giselle Boyer is Haitian-American, so she has mocha colored skin. She is slender and is quite tall at the height of 5 ’ 8. Giselle has coarse, voluminous hair, so she always has her hair in ravishing braids. She attends her junior year of high school, so she is sixteen going on seventeen. Giselle´s eyes are a deep, dark chocolate color. Every time Giselle glances in the mirror she sees the reflection of Isabelle.
Giselle is an artistic person, she used to always embellish important people into her paintings before the accident and the first painting after the accident was of Isabelle. She is intelligent because she excels in learning different languages, she can speak Haitian, English, and her favorite language French. On the day that was supposed to be both of their seventeenth birthdays, Giselle and her best friend, Tina, were sitting on the hill telling stories about Isabelle, watching the vibrant, colorful sunset. Every time the sunset Giselle would say, ¨good¨ and Isabelle would say, ¨bye¨ because they thought if they did that they would not be saying, ¨goodbye¨ to the hill and the sunset forever.
