Theme: How a leader can influence others?
"Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it."-Dwight D. Eisenhower. In a place, where Unwinding is permitted for saving lives and possible, people must take a stand against this rebellion. The novel, Unwind by Neal Shusterman’s, showed commitment and leadership roles throughout the novel. This type of leadership and commitment came from Connor, Roland, and the Admiral. They showed leadership roles in their own different ways throughout the book. This novel says that a leader can influence others by motivation and inspiration, persuasion, and strongly believing in a vision.
The author, Neal Shusterman, created Connor with motivation and inspiration for him to become a great leader. Shusterman gave Connor the characteristics dominated by motivation and inspiration and made him by making Connor visible to others. Leaders are not just seen they are heard, with a voice; and, leaders have learned that having a big voice makes a difference in communication and influence. Great leaders communicate effectively both verbally and nonverbally. Connor used these character elements to become a great leader and influence everyone. For example, when he shot the Juvey- Cop with his own tranquilizer gun, he motivated and inspired many of his peer teens in harvest camps that there is someone willing to save all of their lives. He also inspired and motivated Risa and Lev to follow him as a capable leader. Through this leadership role, he became a famous celebrity known as Akron AWOL. Throughout the journey, with Risa and Lev by his side, Connor proved himself to be quite a clever and strong leader. He managed to easily and quickly adapt to difficult situations, and was always determined to do the right thing, no matter what danger lay ahead of him. Before he became an AWOL, he always got into fights in school and with his parents. Connor had a
