The admiral is an example of this because he became really depressed when he sent his son to be unwound. Then he went and gathered everyone that had his son's parts so that he could throw a party with all of them and bring Harlan back together. This is shown when the book states “He presses his thumb and forefinger against his eyes, stemming off tears before they can flow. "We signed the order, then changed our minds. But it was already too late. They had taken Harlan right out of school to the harvest camp, and rushed him through. It had already been done” This quote shows that the admiral was still very sad about unwinding his son because he is about to cry. This is an example of the toll it takes on the family of the unwind. Another example of this is CyFI. He gets an entire temporal lobe from an unwind called tyler and sometimes tyler takes over CyFi’s body. This is shown when it states “It's a he," Cy says. "I don't know his name. He musta kept his name in another part of his brain. All I got was his right temporal lobe. That's only an eighth of the cerebral cortex, so I'm seven-eighths me, and one-eighth him.” This quote shows that CyFi is not all him because he has part of an unwind in him. This part of the unwind called Tyler makes CyFi do things he would never actually do like steal the diamond bracelet. This is …show more content…
Roland loses consciousness little by little during his unwinding and then after he is just a brain and his brain is taken apart he just dies. This is shown when Unwind states “Left occipital lobe. I ... I … don't remember where . . .Left parietal lobe.I ... I ... I can't remember my name, but . . . but . . .” This quote shows how Roland is slowly losing consciousness as he is slowly taken apart. By then he is just a brain and they are taking apart all his memories. He is slowly losing what makes him Roland and this is murder. He is no longer conscious and is only held alive by a technicality. Roland is really no longer alive after he is unwound and this is one last example of how unwinding is not beneficial to society because all lives should be
