Arthur Scroggs was a farmer. His family has owned and farmed 500 acres of prime land in the Vale of Aylesbury for four generations. In the mid 1980 's small farms were finding the financial climate difficult with falling farm incomes and much talk of putting farm land to "alternative use". By 1985 Arthur had already sold his dairy herd to focus on cereal production when a fortuitous meeting with Lucy Bellingham at a business conference led him to reconsider the future of the family farm. Bellingham is a designer of bespoke fitted kitchens who had a business plan but little capital. The plan was to manufacture top quality fitted kitchen furniture and establish design studios/showrooms in high income areas. Having recently sold his dairy herd, Arthur had enough capital to fund the new business and also a number of large barns and outbuildings suitable for manufacturing the kitchen units subject to refitting and planning consent being obtained. Lucy 's business plan was so convincing that Arthur decided to get out of farming altogether (by leasing his arable land to a local co-operative) and focus on developing the new business. From this small beginning grew the now publicly quoted company of Bellingham plc.…

The definition of a leader can be expressed in many ways. In reference to the movie 12 Angry Men, I have come to agree with the quote of our sixth President John Quincy Adams which states “if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” (Smith, 14) In this movie the main character Davis played by Henry Fonda was able to influence 11 other jurors by introducing the concept of possibility. Davis exemplified leadership through his behavior, thinking, and communication skills in his efforts to persuade the other jurors.…

Those living in the American colonies in the seventeenth century faced many challenges. These tensions of political, social, religious and economic natures came from abroad and within. Influences of the political and economic nature from abroad onto the established American colonies shifted the shape and nature of the colonies; whereas, the social and religious tensions from abroad tended to create new colonies. The Quakers, for instance, were a group of English Protestants who left England in search of a new home for “their own religion and the own distinctive social order” (Brinkley, Alan. " Transplantations and Borderlands."…

I was researching Elmore Kittower’s murder in a California long term care facility. Kittower suffered prolong physical abuse by a nurse assistant. As I was reading several articles depicting the abuse Kittower suffered as a mentally ill patient, I became more passionate about my policy analysis. I was gathering evidence condoning the need for elder abuse prevention strategies in healthcare facilities. Engrossed in my research, I did not realize I received a text message from my mother. I nonchalantly opened the picture attachment only to see a horrific picture. It was a picture of my own grandmother, also a long-term care facility patient, with a black eye and bruised face that engulfed her entire cheek. My hands trembling, I held the picture against my computer screen which still cascaded the numerous articles covering Kittower’s story.…
