Content Level - Educational Session Preconfrence Course: Advanced
DESCRIPTION: According to evidence, experts appear able to maximize outcome with lesser visit counts. This session aims to accelerate your path to expert practice of scientifically enhancing precise movement of the cervicothoracic- shoulder regions to clear their contribution in upper limb symptoms. Systematic reviews suggest that efficient utilization of multimodal interventions may maximize outcome. However, majority of these manual and movement approaches has been published in isolation and have not been widely presented in combination to optimize results. It is a common drawback that the interplay …show more content…
between cervico-thoracic and shoulder regions and their contribution in upper limb symptoms is often overlooked, leading to less than ideal outcome. This course intends to fast track the real-time differentiation and verification of impairments from these three regions, as the cause and source of the problem thereby achieving optimal outcomes.
Moreover, the course aspires to not only provide expert-level approaches; it will highlight scientifically proven yet simple patient-specific progression strategies for these three interconnected regions. Through the use of patient case examples from professional sports and special forces of the
US military, this exciting and interactive session will provide physical therapists with easy-to-learn, movement-focused strategies of the cervico-thoracic and shoulder regions for augmenting the management of upper extremity symptoms.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES (maximum 4, refer to Bloom's Taxonomy link above). Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:: 1. Validate expert-level, clinical pattern recognition concepts to fast track treatment decisions regarding contributions of the cervical spine, thorax, and shoulder complex in upper limb symptoms.
2. Fast track systematic subjective and objective exam to evaluate the most clinically salient impairments from general orthopedics to professional sports.
3. Real-time assessment of problems arising from the neck, thorax and the shoulder region so that precise and advanced manual and movement system interventions become
self-evident.
4. Conclude scientific progression of advanced cervico-thoracic and shoulder interventions to augment local interventions. Session Outline:
30 minutes: Clinical pattern recognition concepts to fast track treatment decisions and scientific progression of advanced interventions
30 minutes: Fast track evaluation, interventions and progression using advanced manual and movement approaches of the cervico-thoracic, shoulder region to augment local interventions
25 minutes: Advanced cervico-thoracic and shoulder movement and injury analysis- professional sports (NFL and/or
MLB) case examples
25 minutes: Advanced cervico-thoracic and shoulder interventions and progression- special force military case examples 10 minutes: Question and answers
