But the United States – Russian Business Council (USRBC) has recently allowed business and entrepreneur’s access to the latest information on the market conditions in the hopes of spurring progress in commercial relations, strengthening economic engagement and successfully managing investments in this challenging period. Problems in Russia’s public sector have lead them into talks internationally in the medical and communications fields.

(Post & Parcel, 2015) Delays, disruption, criminal activity, cries for help and the USRBC considering outside help provides us with considerable leverage and an excellent opportunity for access into the Russian market place.

CASE DESCRIPTION The primary subject matter of this case concerns the management of international joint ventures. Secondary issues examined include: business in Russia; government’s intervention in business and how it affects multinational companies; market entry and modes of market entry decisions;; and dimensions and elements of culture (Fang 2003). The case has a difficulty level appropriate for first or second year graduate level. The case is designed to be taught in one class hour and is expected to require one hour of outside preparation by students. CASE SYNOPSIS BP, one of the largest publicly listed oil companies in the world, had been operating in Russia since 1997, initially through minority stakes in Russian oil companies and, since 2003, through TNK-BP, a 50-50 joint venture with AAR, a consortium of Russian investors. This joint venture allowed BP access to extensive oil reserves in Russia and was one of BP’s most valuable assets, accounting for 25% of BP’s production in 2007. In 2008, BP and its partners in TNK-BP encountered serious disagreements about how to run the company. A string of government actions including raids by the Russian tax police on both BP and TNK-BP’s offices in Russia concluded with the cancelation of TNK-BP’s British CEO’s work visa by Russian immigration authorities. Although BP and its partners reached an agreement in principle to renew the board of TNK-BP and appoint a new CEO in December 2008, by February 2009 they had not been able to appoint a Chief Executive acceptable to both parties. INTRODUCTION In May 2009 TNK-BP, a 50-50 joint venture between BP, one of the major western oil companies, and Alfa Access/Renova, a…

The collapse of the United Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) led to the formation of a new democratic state. The Russian federation has had three different presidents since its formation and the ratification of its constitution in 1993. The Russian president’s role in the creation of foreign and domestic policies lies within the Russian constitution (Federation, 2013). However, not all presidents have addressed issues in the same manner. The first Russian president, Boris Yeltsin, was unsuccessful at fixing the broken Russian economy and uniting its government to establish a strong foreign policy. Yeltsin’s failure to lead the biggest country on the planet led to his resignation in 1999. His resignation allowed the Russian prime minister of the time to take power of the Russian Federation. His name is Vladimir Putin. This article will discuss some of Vladimir Putin’s approaches on international security issues that…

It has gone through many economic shifts, but for the sake of this essay, we will be focusing on the more recent ones. Ever since the dawn of the twenty-first century, Russia has maintained a rather close economic relationship with China. It’s not necessarily surprising when you factor in the lengthy border between the two, but that wasn't the only reason for this agreement to be arranged. China has been a highly promising market with their high economic growth rates and the country has been needing more fossil fuels to support their high energy rates. Fortunately Russia has an abundance of those.…

Next up, who are the Russians and the people that inhabit Moscow? The land we know today as Russia began with native inhabitants known as the Slavic People. The term Slav or Slavic would later create the term in the western hemisphere, ‘slave.’ The Slavic people were enslaved by Scandinavian settlers known as the Vikings. The enslavement of the Slavs, created the western term of slave. The Vikings arrived in Russia via the Volga River basin. They came mainly from frozen Sweden, seeking better lands to pillage and farm. Russia turned out to become an extremely fertile land, in which they enslaved the natives and gave it the name we still call it in modern times. The name of Russia comes from the term the Vikings gave themselves, which was ‘Rusk,’ or ‘one who rows.’ A term…
