Marquette Catholic High School was a request of Bishop Griffin. This school was the first coeducational secondary school in the Springfield Diocese. It’s purpose was to aid parents in education for their children. The Ursulines have been known for teaching children since 1859. The Ursuline Sisters gave their sponsorship up in 1992. Bishop Daniel Ryan brought the school under the sponsorship of the Diocese of Springfield. In May 2007, the Diocese took over and formed an independent board and took control over the school, by the Bishop George Lucas. After this, this small school became a diocesan high school, which is now known as Marquette Catholic High
