U.S. Health Care System Paper
Introduction
The Health Care Systems practiced in both the U.S. and Canada portray lots of differences. The two countries practices similar healthcare systems in the past until Canada changed its healthcare system during the 1960s and 1970s. One major difference is in the amount of money spent on healthcare services. Healthcare Expenditure in the U.S. is quite high compared to Canada on the basis of GDP percentage and per-capita. For instance, by 2006, the per-capita expenditure on health care in the U.S. was $ 6,714 while Canada had a total of $ 3,678. The GDP in America in 2006 amounted to 15.3 %, while Canada spent a GDP of 10.0 %. These differences in spending brought about by each Government’s involvement in health care activities. To be precise, over 70 % of healthcare spending in Canada is financed by the government. The case is quite different in the U.S., where the Government barely contributes a 46 % health care spending. Improving the American Health Care System may require the Government to implement the strategies that have been applied in Canada. The per-capita and GDP expenditures in Canada are very low compared to the situation in America. With a GDP of 10.4 % in Canada, health care is doing fine, unlike America’s GDP of 16.0 %. With a lesser spending, the Canadian Government has managed to cover all citizens since it uses a public funding program. Challenges are being experienced in the U.S. despite the application of both public and private programs. It is thus evident that Canada is performing better than the
