the north. The Unites States wanted to help unite the country through the war, but at the end there weren’t any actual winners. Even today, in the 20th century, Korea is still divided into two parts, with the non-communists government system in the south, and Communists government system in the North.
Next, the United States fought in the Vietnam war, which occurred from 1964 to 1973.
“Much like [The United States] involvement in the Korean War, the involvement of the US in vietnam stemmed from its Cold War containment policy” (The Soviet Union- A Country Study). The Unites States simply wanted to help unite Vietnam as well, so they wouldn’t have a communist government system. This was was very long, and resulted in many casualties. This result in the 20th century is the many dived areas in the United States. There were also some Americans who didn;t wants the United States to participate in the fight between Vietnam, but at the end of the war, the US lost, and Vietnam became a communist government.
The Cold war continuously went on until 1990. At this time, the Soviet Union soon began to break apart, and became into many smaller countries. The Cold War ended, then former Soviet Union and the United States became allies. Therefore, the Soviet Union’s motivation to expand their sphere of influence in order into Korea and Vietnam became a superpower in the 20th
