Use Of Capital Punishment In Tkam
In TKAM the book uses a sort of capital punishment. The reason he is in court is because he was accused of rape. If he was guilty of rape he could've gotten lifetime in jail or executed. But, if he wasn't guilty the people who tried to blame him nothing would happen to them. The history of the use of capital punishment is where if you do something really bad you could get put in jail or executed. The things that will cause capital punishment are murder, rape, treason, witchcraft, heresy, arson, piracy, sodomy, burglary, robbery, stealing horses, slave rebellion and counterfeiting. This law was outlawed in some states. The states are Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Dakota, Rhode Island,
Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin. It was a denial of the human rights. 31 states still have the death penalty. There are a lot of states with it still. The reasons why it is used now is kind of different. The reasons are treason, kidnapping, aggravated assault by prisoners and rape. This law has been used on blacks in a result of racism. Racist men or women would blame blacks for things they didn't do. Just like in TKAM, where Tom Robinson was blamed for some lady that got beat up. So, some blacks would get lifetime in jail or executed for no reason and some would get life time in jail for a reason. Most of the time whites would do stuff and then blame it on some black people. They could murder someone and blame it on somebody else because back then they didn't have these high tech computers or all the finger print finders. All of these relate to TKAM. How? They all deal with racism and rape. Also, on how Tom got blamed for something he didn't do. The worst thing about this is you don't see a lot of white people getting executed. Most Of the time it's the whites doing the awful things and the blacks getting blamed for it.
