Use Of Figurative Language In Love The Way You Lie
The figurative language used gave out a very negative and abusive vibe in the song “Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem. To start right at the beginning, Rihanna sings, "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn,” as an opener. Now we know that she is not actually on fire, making this a metaphor. This first line is immediately putting out there that she feels terrible, hence fire equals bad, and she knows that this other person is just standing there and letting it happen. If she was actually on fire it could get very out of control if it isn’t already. Yet then she says, “well that's alright because I like the way it hurts.” So she is getting hurt (abused as we find out later in the song) and she likes it...doesn’t make much sense. Eminem agrees
