Mise en scene creates different feelings to movies and the notebook has plenty of scenes that use mise en scene. The director uses a vast majority of film elements, starting the scene off with a panning angle which has Noah and Allie sitting opposite each other in a small wooden boat in the distance, the camera angle is far-flung to signify that there distant from land and also gives you a chance to see the scenery. The scene then progresses on with using more close ups of Allie and Noah as they slowly paddle back among shore. The director does this to show the characters emotions and body language as there is an awkward silence between them. He has also implied the two essential areas of sound in this scene. As Noah paddles along the water you can hear the water crashing against the boat and ores, this is when the tension starts building non-diegetic music begins to play when they hear a storm approaching towards them, the rain begins to fall and the music gets louder Allie panics and Noah starts laughing, Allie begins to laugh too signify she’s …show more content…
The scene then moves on to Allie confronting Noah in such sadness on why he never wrote to her. The director implied high and low angles to this part of the excerpt to show that Allie was heartbroken by this making Allie stand over Noah. when he steps up of the dock they become level and he replies with a shocking message for her. The camera Is constantly going back and forwards between the two as they speak. The scene ends with Noah saying that it still isn’t over. Even after all those years Noah is still in love with Allie. She says its to late because she has then moved on to a new man but she also still has so many feelings for her first love.
Lighting is a key part of mise en scene, lighting can make the scene share real emotions, if the scene is dark it signifies action or mystery, when if the scene is bright it creates happy vibes. Nick Cassavetes the director has made The lighting in the start of the excerpt quite foggy and gloomy to show that a storm may be on its way and that this may lead to and emotional build up. As the scene progresses on when the storm approaches the sky is very grey and the lighting is dull but you can see the rain falling and although quite dark it still creates romantic
