The Internet has become a popular source of mainstream media. A battle is raging over the control of the Internet, and the rights of the American people are at stake. The documentary Killswitch, exposes the true power of the Internet and how the government is controlling that power; violating freedom of speech and the right to privacy. The documentary takes a stand in favor of Net Neutrality, which is the principle that the Internet enables access to all-content without choosing or blocking certain websites. The efforts of Aaron Swartz and Edward Snowden to win back Internet freedom are highlighted in this documentary in order to appeal to American citizens to take action in favor of Net Neutrality. “Freedom is embedded in technology and we have to protect technology if we want to protect our freedom” (Killswitch). Internet regulation grants power to the Government and violates constitutional rights of Americans hindering the Nation’s founding principle of democracy.…

The Internet has been designed as a ‘pool of endless information’ for anyone who has access. With its introduction in the mid 1990’s, it has vastly changed the way we do business, obtain all kinds of data and the way we communicate in the world today. With its sheer potential, we have created the most powerful tool of our modern day technology. In a series of memos that were first written in 1962, by an MIT expert of the name of J.C.R Licklider, he had envisioned a type of ‘network’ in which a set of computers were globally interconnected in sharing information and anyone could access data from anyone of these terminals (Leiner, Cerf, Kahn & Clark, 1962-1974).…

Through the past several decades the advancement of technology has evolved. Among one of the advancements was the Internet. The Internet is a worldwide of networks connecting millions of computers. Through the Internet countries are able to exchange data, news and opinions. It started in the 1960’s when the internet was originally being used for government which later evolved to the world (Computer history museum, 2006). Over the past forty years the internet has changed technology of computers and how the world communicates, online banking, social networking, and online shopping. The Internet we know today grew from seeds planted by the U.S. Government. The Department of Defense issued a twenty thousand dollar contract on December 6, 1967 for the purpose of studying the design and specification of a computer network (Internet History from ARPANET to Broadband, 2007). It was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. government in 1969 and was first known as the ARPANet (Computer history museum, 2006). The ARPA laid the groundwork which later became the internet. By 1992 the Internet has one million hosts (Ganna, 2006). Through the years the Internet has changed the way people live and run businesses. My project will walk through the discovery and evolution of the Internet.…

The users of the worldwide shared resource, internet, are aware of the fact that the flow of information and documents are controlled by the servers and hosting companies, whereas with this networking system the peers can make their resources available to other users of the network as much as they wish. With the resource the system can provide the processing power, disk storage, network bandwidth and many others and these do not require the coordination of the controllers of internet such as the suppliers and servers of this indescribable service. Talking about the providers or in other words the hosts of internet, there are millions of them, however the number was not as high as today back in the days of the innovation of internet. Along with the internet which first came into being as a peer to peer networking in the 1960s, in the 1994s came appeared the network model and this massive improvement has reached…

Introduction The history of the Internet traces its roots to the United States government. The original use of the information system was to maintain communication during the cold war, with the Soviet Union in 1969, by the Department of Defense, incase of a nuclear attack or a major catastrophe. The National Science foundation created the Internet based on the ARPAnet. The first mass connection was between the University of California Santa Barbara, Stanford Research Institute, the University of Utah and the University of California Los Angeles.Ray Tomlinson develops E-mail in 1972.The ARPAnet became obsolete in 1982, but the basis for the program is still used at the present time. The Web began in 1989;it wasn 't released to the world till the early 90 's that 's when it became the World Wide Web. In 1993 Marc Andressen created software for the Internet to publish text, images and sound. Andressen also introduced the first graphical Web browser, called Mosaic, still in use today. The United States runs most of the access to the Internet with 62% of all the routers, next closest is the United Kingdom with 5.2%. That is just an example of what America controls much on the Internet. 70% of the writing on the Internet is in English, next is Japanese. Statistics say 1 in 3 people use the Internet for E- Mail, 1 in 6 use it because they want to find out how it works, 1 in 8 want business information and 1 in 2 go to the Internet for education, hobbies, job listings, and entertainment. In 1993 less than 1% of users paid for use of the Internet. By 1995, it rose to over 200% due to the profits companies made from the providing this service. This became a common change that businesses have made since the beginning of the information highway. It was then clear that the Internet wasn 't going anywhere anytime soon. This stared a trend, which is still being felt today and into the near future. Because of the demand for the Internet around the World, and the amount of capital…
