Abstract
In this experiment work the research question: Using EDTA as a titrant, which brands of milk
PEAK, MIkSI, LOYA, COWBELL, NIDO, IDEAL, PEAK TIN, CARNATION, POMO, NUNU and
VEGA contain a high concentration of calcium and are economical?, Was investigated.
Calcium is one of the most important alkaline earth metals. It is found in group two and period four in periodic table. Since calcium is used in secretion of hormones and transmitting impulse in our nerve system, it is found in a large abundance in our body. Calcium also found in earth crust in a form of compound like Calcium carbonate. This is because calcium is reactive so it cannot be found as a free element.
To determine the Ca

concentration in different brands of milk, the milk will be titrated with a

known concentration of EDTA solution. The EDTA ion is water soluble so it will react with the Ca

to form a complex. Such titration is known as complexometric titration. The end point of the titration is detected by Eriochrome black T indicator. It shows a colour change from red to blue. To find the moles of the calcium in the milk samples, the mean volume of EDTA that brings the colour change will be multiplied by its concentration. Dividing the mole by the volume of the sample used gives the concentration of the calcium in the solution. Although dividing the cost of the sample by the percentage mass of calcium ion in the sample and multiply it by hundred percent gives the cost of calcium in the solution.
In conclusion the results of the experiment have shown that PEAK

It has the atomic number twenty and the relative atomic mass of 40.078. The standard state of calcium, which means the reference point used to calculate the properties in different conditions, is solid at 298 K. This element is a silvery white and classified as metallic, which means it resembles a metal or metals. On the periodic table, the element calcium is located in group two. Group two is the alkaline earth metals, which means calcium is an alkaline earth metal. Also, on the periodic table it is located in period four. The block calcium is in is the s-block. The elements in the s-block are located in the first two periodic table groups. The electron shell structure for calcium are 2.8.8.2. For calcium, the CAS registry ID, which is a unique numerical identifier given to elements by the Chemical Abstracts Service, otherwise known as the CAS, is 7440-70-2.…

Calcium is essential for maintaining necessary level of bone mass to support structures of the body. The body uses calcium for heart, blood, muscles and nerves. It can be lost through bodily process like sweating, waste, shedding of hair, skin and fingernails. The close relationship between bone and calcium is the principal processes of calcium metabolism. Bone contains about 99% of calcium in the body and can behave as an adequate buffer for maintenance of a constant level of freely moving calcium in soft tissues, extracellular fluid and blood (Openstax College, 2013).…

    2. Calcium is essential for maintaining the necessary level of bone to support the structures of the body. The body is constantly using calcium fir the heart, blood, muscles, and nerves. Calcium is also lost through normal bodily process such as waste and the shedding of hair, finger nails, sweat and skin. If a patient’s diet doesn’t include enough calcium to replace what it used, the body will take calcium away from the bone, which weakens them and makes them more likely to fracture.…

In 1947, experiments in which small quantities of Ca2+ ions were injected directly into the cell showed that an increase in intracellular calcium led to skeletal contractions. However it was not until the early 1960s when the way calcium ions were stored in cells became clearer thanks to work from Ebashi and Lipmann. (Burgoyne and Petersen, 1997).…

Calcium carbonate is a chemical compound with the chemical formula CaCO3. It is one of the most common substances found in rock in every part of the world, and is the main ingredient in shells, marine organisms, snails, pearls, and eggshells. Calcium carbonate is the active ingredient in agricultural lime, and is usually the top cause of hard water. It is commonly used medicinally as a calcium supplement or as an antacid, but extreme use can be risky.…

First of all, rinse all the apparatus that being used in the experiment with hydrochloric acid (HCL) then followed with distilled water (H₂O). Then, prepared the saturated calcium hydroxide (Ca (OH) ₂) solution into a filter funnel and filter paper over a second conical flask. Pour 100.00mL of saturated Ca (OH)₂ solution into a beaker and pour the solution through the filter paper by flowing the solution through a glass rod. After that, use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the solution obtained in the conical flask. Fill 29.00mL of HCL in the burette. Use a pipette to transfer 10.00mL portion of the solution into a conical flask and drop 5 drops of methyl orange into it by using a dropper. Then, slowly open the mouth of the burette and allow HCL to flow into the conical flask containing Ca (OH)₂ and methyl orange as the indicator. Titrate the solution until the yellow colour of the solution turns into orange. Repeat the experiment for several times to get the average reading.…
