VANET Analysis
Each participating vehicle is turned into a router or wireless node that can connect and become a part of the network in the range of 100 m to 300 m approximately. Network is dropped out in case vehicles fall out of the range. Any vehicles can join in the network, if it comes in the range to form a VANET. Each vehicle in VANET is considered as a mobile node which is proficient of communicating with its neighbours as well as with other vehicles within the network. The direct communication that takes place between onevehicle to another vehicle is called as Vehicle to Vehicle communication, whereas on the other hand, communication between a vehicle and an infrastructure, such as a Road Side Unit (RSU), is generally known as Vehicle-to-Infrastructure …show more content…
One of the leading applications of VANET is in the critical medical emergency conditions where there is no infrastructure while it is critical to pass on the information for the security of human lives. However, along with these useful applications of VANET, emerge new challenges and problems. Non-existence of infrastructure in VANET lays added responsibilities on vehicles. The OBU is mainly comprised of a resource command processor (RCP), and resources include a read/write memory employed to save and retrieve information, a user interface, a specific interface to connect with the other OBUs and a network device for short-range wireless communication on the basis of IEEE 802.11p wireless technology. The OBU connects to the RSU or to other OBUs via a wireless link and is held accountable for the communications among the other OBUs or with the RSUs. It can also accommodate a transmission service to the AU and transmits data in place of other OBUs on the network.     Purpose – The past decade has witnessed a growing interest in vehicular networking and its myriad applications. The initial view of practitioners and researchers was that radio-equipped vehicles can keep the drivers informed about potential safety risks and can enhance their awareness of road conditions and traffic-related events. This conceptual paper seeks to put forth a novel vision, namely that advances in vehicular networks, embedded devices, and cloud computing can be used to set up what are known as vehicular clouds (VCs). Design/methodology/approach – The paper suggests that VCs are technologically feasible and that they are likely to have a significant societal impact. Findings – The paper argues that at least in some of its manifestations, the ideas behind VCs are eminently implementable under present day technology. It is also expected that, once adopted and championed by municipalities and third-party infrastructure providers, VCs will redefine the way in which pervasive computing and its myriad applications is thought of. Research limitations/implications – This is a new concept for which a small-scale prototype is being built. No large-scale prototype exists at the moment.
