Langston Hughes and W. H. Auden are two highly educated authors, who came from very different cultural backgrounds. Literary contemporaries, contemporaries in that they were both working writers during the same time period, Hughes and Auden are known for literary works which tackle both moral and political issues. Langston Hughes's and W. H. Auden's poems "Ballad of the Landlord" and "Miss Gee" exhibit each author's ability to employ the use of a traditional poetic form to tell a fanciful yet haunting story of characters whose initial qualities are comedic and simple. Both poems are similar in that they are ballads, they rhyme, and they both end in tragedy; however the tragic outcomes for each of the stories characters are as different as the authors who wrote them and the variations on the style they chose to tell these stories.…

    Bully's Restaurant Report

Many people are on lunch break and are rushing to get some delightful soul food before their break ends. The parking spaces are limited and the restaurant itself is relatively small, so come with only a few friends and make arranges to drive just maybe one vehicle if you intend to sit down and eat. You can also place your order to-go if you do not want to dine-in. Mostly every time I go, I always get my food to-go so I won’t have to witness the hectic crowd. The menu is straight forward, choose a meat and sides. The meat ranges from fried or baked chicken, fried or baked catfish, ribs, meatloaf, oxtails, neck bones, fried or baked pork chops, beef tips, shrimp, etc. Different sides include: lima beans, collard greens, turnip greens, mustard greens, macaroni, corn, yams, mashed potatoes and gravy, rice and gravy, peas, okra, etc. The food is provided on plastic trays, similar to grade school days, but the food served in those trays is beyond delicious from any of the food from grade school. The prices are very reasonable for the great amount of food they give you. You probably will spend just about $10.00 at the most on one meal, it all just depends on what you order. I have tried mostly all the food such as, the fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, pork chops, pasta, beef tips and rice, red beans and rice, peach cobbler, banana bread, pound cake, etc. Like I said before, the portions are very large, so you…

A retrospective understanding of an author’s context, allows us to identify and contrast between the social values apparent in their respective literature. This is evident in both Shakespeare’s 16th century play ‘Othello’ and Geoffrey Sax’s 2001 variation. Both texts explore the differences in human nature; such as revenge and discrimination in the form of gender inequality and racial prejudice and this can be seen as a reflection it its context. Since these ideas are constant throughout both texts a comparative analysis would indicate the differing values of the society of each text. Shakespeare’s Othello has been crafted for an Elizabethan audience, thus he’s given importance to a higher supernatural figure as that was the belief of their time. In comparison Sax portrays a more modern ideology such as science…
