A vaccine is a biological preparation that improves immunity to a particular disease. “A vaccine is a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.” (Google’s definition) Vaccines contain a little bit of a disease pathogen that is weak or dead. This little bit of the pathogen inside your body makes your body's defense system build antibodies to fight off this kind of pathogen. Antibodies help trap and kill pathogens that could lead to disease. Antibodies remember how to fight off the pathogen if the real pathogen that causes the disease, not the vaccine, enters the body during your life. More than likely antibodies defense system remember how to fight a pathogen for the rest of the person’s life. There are several pros to childhood vaccines. Vaccines most of the time abolish diseases and prevent serious illness and death of children. “According to researchers at the Pediatric Academic Society, childhood vaccinations in the US prevent about 10.5 million cases of infectious illness and 33,000 deaths per year.” (vaccines.procon.org) “According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, most childhood vaccines are 90-99% effective in preventing disease.” (vaccines.procon.org) If children who are vaccinated versus children who aren’t vaccinated contract a disease there symptoms of the disease are less serious. The risks of not being vaccinated outweigh the risks identified with vaccination. So, why not vaccinated your child? There are several cons to childhood vaccines as there are pros. There are people who have religious beliefs against vaccination. “The first Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.” (Google’s definition) When parents are forced to vaccinate their child or children its violates the first Amendment. Anaphylactic shock, paralysis, and sudden death are reaction form childhood vaccination and they not worth having because all diseases aren’t deadly. I think childhood vaccination are incredible and they have saved millions of lives. Also, I don’t think that vaccination should be an obligation of parent to have their children or child vaccinated. I’m not really for or against childhood vaccinations I’m more of a neutral party. I’m neutral simply because my children will be vaccinated and I don’t think that I should have the say so in what another parent think is best for their children or child. I’m neutral because vaccination are against some people religious beliefs and I wouldn’t want anyone to make me do anything against my religious nor personal beliefs. Another con is the vaccinate are against some people religious beliefs and they are forced to vaccinate their and it violates the first Amendment. My opinion is that it should be up to the parents of the child on rather a baby is vaccinated or not.
