Out of all the assumptions about what makes a college a successful college, I believe the value of college is not solely based off of the cost or graduation rate, but it’s value is reflected by the students’ efforts and the life lessons learned. After reading the articles, Why I’m not afraid of Virginia Woolf -- of the, ‘crisis’ in the humanities by Anne E. Fernald, The Crisis in the Humanities and the Corporate Attack on the University by P. Winston Fettner and College is not a commodity. Stop treating it like one by Hunter Rawlings, I began to understand more about other perspectives of college that have broadened my understanding of higher education.…
It is highly probable that in an adults work, disagreements with others will occur. In the majority of cases, this is down to a lack of communication or miscommunication. However, these disagreements should be handled very carefully so that the negatively feelings disappear afterwards. Adults can misread or perceive information wrongly and might think someone has communicated something that is the completely the opposite of what they actually were trying to communicate. Blame is often put on others for saying things that can be ambiguous or for having a different view.…
We have heard of the Columbine shooting, where in the spring of 1999 in Littleton, Colorado over a dozen people where killed and many others were wounded at the hands of two students. Or even more recently, we heard about the Virginia Tech massacre where a single student killed thirty-two people and wounded over twenty more. University of Texas, California State University, San Diego State University, the list of school violence is long and heart-breaking. Students and teachers have lost their lives by the dozens to gunmen that carried a grudge for some reason or another. These are extreme cases, for sure, and there is without a doubt a need for discipline in schools every where. However, zero-tolerance policies are not the answer to school discipline unless they can be reformed to have fewer gray areas and kept from being too strict, be less disruptive to the education process and allow teachers to keep their voices, and figure out how to correct claims of racial discrimination, regardless of claims that they are effective.…
The atmosphere in which we grow up and the influences of our peers shape who we are. Depending on these factors, people achieve happiness under different circumstances. I believe that graduating from a well-known, reputable, university is more fulfilling than winning a lottery because, in the latter, the prize money will eventually be depleted and the chances of earning or winning another lottery are slim. In contrast, post-secondary education is not a waste of time and money because going to university or college would mean acquiring more knowledge in specific subjects, achieving the goal of completing a degree, and increase the likelihood of attaining skills to apply in everyday life to earn a living.…
Post Secondary is not a waste of time and money. There are many skills, friends, and opportunities to be drawn from it. With a variety of post secondary schools it is very difficult to not find a suitable one that interests and enhances. Getting into top schools can have many benefits on your life. For example, if you attend a school such as Harvard you will be automatically looked in a different way. Things like these are also great for your resume. Apart from that post secondary allows you to go more in-depth into a certain subject. For instance it is very hard to become an expert brain surgeon with only secondary school information. These are the main reason anyone chooses to attend college. However, I like to look at it as an educational opportunity that should be pleasurable and beneficial. The opportunity allows you to learn about historical backgrounds, and to incorporate those ideals and actions into the making of the future. Students can experience things that are new and individually interesting for them to study. Incorporating new ideas and skills in one’s future works, and for students to be successful and prosper for their own lives.…
