Laertes, Polonius’ son, and Hamlet were fencing and Laertes had a sword with poison on the tip. Mid-Duel, Laertes swipes Hamlet across the body which allows for the poison to take action. The wounded Hamlet mistakenly picks up the poison-tipped sword and poisons Laertes with it. Laertes confesses to Hamlet that they have both been stabbed with poison, so Hamlet takes the sword, declares “The point envenomed too! Then, venom, to thy work.” (5.2.352-353), and stabs Claudius with the poison sword. Although Hamlet was already poisoned and knew he was going to die, he wanted to make sure that Claudius went down with him. Friendship can be developed over time and through an immense amount of trust, which may lead into a family-like relationship. Although we are not related, I consider Caleb McDonough to be a brother to me. Like a friend, Caleb and I share many common interest and he has always had my back no matter what, but it is way more than that. Caleb has always been an influence for me in school, and life.
