Values Portrayed in Popular Media

Values portrayed in popular media and the reason is because their is always something

going on in the media everyday. Also, the media plays a major role in the generation of

the young children in the world today. What is media? “Media is defined as the means

of communication for the radio, television, newspapers and magazines that reach or

influence people widely“. (Dictionary.com) How is the media and influence on the

generation today? Comparing how it was when I grew up in my generation, with

the generation today? How can we help change the mind of the generation coming

up today?

The generation today listen to the radio or either watching TV all the time, and they

also live on the internet. The media portrays the generations today to follow behind

rappers, TV stars and celebrities for our young children to look up to. According to a

article I read on Credo, it states that “Many students of contemporary society believe

That the mass media are capable of shaping consciousness in fundamental ways, and

that media influence on society is thus enormous”. (www.credo reference.com)

The media to me influences our younger generation on the type of attire they wear,

the attitudes that they have among their peers or parents. Also the type of language they

use with one another. I am not stating that all celebrities are a bad influence, but you do

have celebrities like “Lil Wayne, Drake, Nikki Minaj, Walka Falka, Kim Kardashian and

many more out there. The rappers that I mention use foul language and disrespect

women in a way that not cause for. The women in the industry being a movie star,

Actor or singer are not very good influences on our young generation today.

Most of the television shows that are shown on TV like “Teen

Marshall McLuhan said, “All media exist to invest our lives with artificial perceptions and arbitrary values”. Yet the media is very important in how so many people get to know the world around them. For example, when the lower and middle class do not interact with the upper class, it is impossible for them to understand about the upper class. The only way most of the other classes understand the upper class is through media portrayal. Media is one of the biggest networks in the world at the present day. It has been the significant part of the human life. Everyone is directly involved in and spends so many of his or her waking hours with some form of the media. Television, radio, newspaper, books, internet & social network…

American culture has been shaped and influence by visual entertainment in so many ways. Celebrities influence our society every day. In this society celebrities have a large impact on people life. From cars to fashion trends, the way they live, their attractiveness of a celebrity lifestyle, can influence a person behavior and their beliefs. Celebrities even have this weight loss thing going on, as if it’s not ok to be overweight. This often starts at an early age in a kid’s life. My oldest niece is 10 years old and she wants to be like ever young star she sees on TV. She always tells me she can’t eat too much because she doesn’t want to gain too much weight. It’s crazy because she actually sits at the table and pretends as if she isn’t really hungry. She chooses to imitate Hannah Montana. She love her she look up to her as an idol. As a child I looked up to celebrities because they all had big money. Any celebrity you know has a nice car, house, and job. Jennifer Hudson has this commercial for weight watcher where it shows how much weight she has loss. It has gotten me to the point where I want to try losing some weight. The way the celebrities live make you want more in life. I want to make enough money so I can put my boys through college and live comfortable lives were I want have to work all my life. Celebrities influence society in a good and bad way it all depends on how you were raise and were you want to go in life. Like my mother always told her girls “It’s not where you come from in life it were you want to go in life”. In some ways it influences children in a bad way, when they have different movies of artists acting out in a ghetto movie. Some artist plays the dope dealer or the gang banger in a movie. My son love movies like that for some odd reason this type of action gets their attentions. Every time I see him looking at a gangster movie I tell him to turn the TV and put on some cartoon. He…

Different age groups. Different ethnic backgrounds. Different styles of music. All of the preceding are important factors that help make up the demographic influence of any one celebrity. Celebrities usually appeal to an age demographic similar to their own. For example, stars such as Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber appeal to tweens and teens in close proximity to their own ages. Another demographic related characteristic that makes celebrities appealing to fans is that of race. Members of the same race tend to support each other, this makes for a large margin of support by African American fans for rappers such as 50 Cent. Interests in one specific genre of music can also largely influence why some fans are drawn to certain music icons. A young, teen male that is interested in country and rock music will most likely not be an avid listener of rap. All of these different characteristics help narrow the fields in which celebrities have an impact on fans, their specific demographics of listeners will then be impacted far greater than music listeners overall.…

When you were a kid, did you ever fantasize about being a pro athlete or celebrity? At one point in every child's life, they dream of being on the front pages of magazines or live on TV. They dream of the A-list lifestyle and wish that they could be that when they grow up. When I was a kid, I dreamed of being a singer and I looked up to Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Professional athletes and celebrities make amazing role models but they can also be a really bad one too.…

Since the beginning of technology and its advancements, the media has never been as strong in influencing people as it is today. This especially holds true to younger generations because they are more exposed and have more means of knowing what everything else is happening in the world. The media has a very strong hold on people especially with regards to how society would act towards them. Media dictates the rules and regulation for society. From girls needing to be as heavy as paper and men needing to be as ripped as Ryan Reynolds, to people dressing up as Korean pop superstars or singing songs made famous by Justin Beiber, people really never had the chance to show their individuality or their real self because of the impossible standards set by the media. Media has proven to be one of the strongest if not impregnable walls greatly separates the ideal self from the real self of a person. There are various reasons in how media affects the gap of our real self with our ideal self and we will try to enumerate as many as we can.…
