GENERADOR DE VAN DE GRAAFF

[pic]

A machine, first demonstrated in 1929 by the American physicist Robert J. Van der Graaf (1901-1967), which is capable of generating very high voltages , of the order of millions of volts. The straightforward principle behind the Van der Graaf generator is as follows. Electric charges of the same type (either positive or negative) are put onto a moving belt, carried upwards by the belt into a hollow copper dome, and left there. This is a continuous process, the belt collecting charge at the bottom and depositing for storage at the top. As the amount of charge on the dome builds up, its voltage increases.

Suppose the dome is to be negatively charged. At the lower end of the machine is an electric generator capable of making a direct current of electricity at a relatively low voltage – about 20,000 volts. To the negative terminal of this generator are attached a number

The story about Nikola Tesla is the story of a genius who was largely disrespected and abused by other scientists and inventors. Through my research I have managed to find out about the forgotten genius, his creation, the competition against direct current, and his true predictions. Furthermore, I talk about why this unfortunate futurist did not receive the prestige for his work; yet, considered the best scientist of all times.…

Anthony van Dyck, Lucas van Uffel, illustrates a man whom appears to be distinguished as an intelligent artistic person. Although, it was compared to another portrait of the same ‘sitter’ but instead of signifying intelligence the man is seen to be overlooking the sailing of ships off a “Mediterranean coast”. The intelligence is displayed by the objects positioned around the merchant ( the globe, worn out book also argued to be a recorde, and the pages). Rembrandt van Rijn, Aristotle with a Bust of Homer, represents the “gaining of knowledge”. This is seen by his respect for Homer.…

Apes are one of the most sophisticated creatures on the face of the Earth. From their advanced means of communication to their ability to craft a variety of useful tools, these attributes not only let them thrive in a prehistoric humanistic way, but also rule the animal kingdom. Despite their rich intellect the general public see apes as nothing more than feeble-minded, rabid beasts, some not even able to distinguish the former from monkeys, who are distinctly different species. Scientists, on the other hand have been conducting extensive research to discover what factors can be attributed to ape’s intricate way of life. This is because of their superior anatomical, neurological, and psychological differences that set them apart from the…

The instrument used by Hertz incorporated an induction coil to produce an extremely high voltage. This was connected to a circuit with a very small opening, with small copper balls on each end. Capacitor plates were used to adjust the capacity of the circuit for resonance. A ring of copper wire with a small gap, also edged with spark balls placed at varying distances, up to a few hundred metres away. When the power was turned on, small sparks were produced in the opening. This proved Maxwells theory about electromagnetic wave propagation. Hertz also unknowingly demonstrated the photoelectric effect during his experiments.…
