In an increasing population the need for land fields are as well increasing daily. Better yet, rather than dumping off trash is to instead recycle aluminum cans for a more efficient society. In this lab we will show how aluminum cans react to form alum.…
Vanadium, pronounced veh-NAY-di-em, atomic symbol V, and atomic number associated with this transition metal is 23. The atomic weight of Vanadium is 50.942 grams per one mole. The electron configuration is 1S2 2S2 2P6 3S2 3P6 4S2 3D3 and the noble gas notation is [Ar] 4S2 3D3.…
This experiment contains three separate procedures in which Aluminum Potassium Sulfate(Alum) will be melted, massed out and mixed with Barium Nitrate, along with distilled Water. Procedure one we completed two trials of melting two separate 0.01g of Alum and making a comparison to the literature temperature of 92.5, to do this we attached an Alum filled capillary tube to a thermometer and inside a beaker placed over a Bunsen burner. Procedure two consisted of placing 2.00 grams of Alum into a crucible and heating it over a Bunsen burner while making sure to take the separate masses as well as the masses of the Alum before and after heating. Procedure three was determining the outcome of mixing the Alum with distilled water and Barium Nitrate…
It is due to the extremely slow dissolution rates of the glassy matrix and crystalline aluminosilicate phases (Dudas, 1981). Aluminium was found to be leached from fly ash in column study, as 0.5 ppm at 10th day of experiment. At 20th day of experiment, concentration of aluminium in leachate was recorded as 1.4 ppm and at 30th and 45th day of experiment it was found as 2.5 and 3.8 ppm respectively. The Aluminium was found to be leached throughout the study period in both alkaline and acidic condition of ash slurry into the column but the leaching was found to be more with increasing time as the pH was decreased. Aluminium is considered as amphoteric element (Makela, 2012) which can leach in both alkaline and acidic…

Tin mining also causes a lot of damages to the rainforest. It results in a large area of rainforest being cleared. Other metals mined for include gold, copper, bauxite (a metal used in the process of making aluminium), iron, manganese and lead. The tin fetches around US$6,000 per tonne. The metals are mined by a high pressure hose by blasting off the topsoil. The metal is the collected. In areas of rock, people use traditional mining metals to collect the metals.…
By recycling aluminum cans, the costs and energy savings are dramatically more resourceful and efficient than producing aluminum from what it is naturally found in, bauxite ore. The process of recycling aluminum to produce potassium aluminum sulfate, a common alum, will be done through a serious of chemical reactions. Through this reaction, percent yield will be determined.…

Coal ash pollution is a huge issue that has been looked at many of times in the US. The disposal of coal ash has become the bigger issue here. Coal ash is the toxic by product of burning coal, and it’s the second largest industrial waste stream in the US, with trash being number one. Millions of tons of coal ash are stored in unsafe dumps that can leach heavy metals, arsenic, lead, selenium, and hexavalent chromium into ponds, landfills, abandoned mines, and ground water. When consumed, it could cause cancer and birth defects. There has never been a federal policy for coal ash disposal and state standards are often weak or non-existent. This is why coal ash disposal is such a big issue.…
Burning coal produces flue gases like nitrogen and sulfur oxides: NO2, NO3, SO2, and SO3. When these gases react with atmospheric water, they turn into sulfuric and nitric acids such as H2SO4 or HNO3, eventually spilling back to earth as toxic acid rains. But when these oxides are mixed with ammonia (NH3) and exposed to electron beams, they can be turned into ammonium sulfate and ammonium nitrate, common fertilizers. The reaction creates dust-like particles that could be gathered with an electrostatic or centrifugal particle separator and put on the field.…
Castor oil has been rising in popularity within the natural healthcare industry due to the fact that it has been helpping people to regrow their hair. On average, the human hair grows an inch per month. But, by applying castor oil, it can help the air to grow as much as 2.5 inches per month. What's so interesting about castor oil is that, not only can it help to spark rapid hair growth, it makes the hair follicles noteicably thicker 3-4 months after use as well. As such, many people apply it to their eyebrows and eyelashes to make them grow thicker and longer. The reason why castor oil is so effective that triggering accelrtated hair growth is due to the fact that it has anifungal, antibacteiral and antiviral properties which…
Techniques & Skills – The skills that are required for this laboratory experiment is that we must exercise extreme caution when working with equipment that is used in conjunction with the heating and/or melting of reagents. Also we must have the ability to use the pipet efficiently and effectively because we will be extracting substances that need to be handled with care. The casting trays (bed) that is being handled needs to be used with care and skill because it should not be messed with but used in the proper sense.…
The text studied was "Encomium of Helen" by Gorgias. After reading the first few lines I had made an early assumption that I was not going to like this piece of writing. By the 5th paragraph or so my judgement was proven wrong for it got more interesting. To the best of my knowledge, this piece is the writer's opinion on the power of words and how they can do many things but most significantly, persuade individuals. "Speech is a powerful lord, which by means of the finest and most invisible body effects the divinest works: it can stop fear and banish grief and create joy and nurture pity. I shall show how this is the case." (8) Gorgia expresses how he feels speech may have influenced or caused Helen's voyage to Troy. This piece of literature is directly related to the study of rhetoric.…
