For this assignment, I selected a recipe that I’ve used on many occasions, because it closely resembles one that my mother used to make when I was younger. I did, however changed the original McCormick’s graphic because it lacked toppings.
Based on instructor feedback, I decided to split the recipe into the following sections; ‘ingredients’, ‘appliances,’ and ‘directions’. Originally, I tried listing all the directions together, indicating the ones that should be performed by an adult, in line with those to be performed by a child. However, this didn’t seem to work very well because I was constantly bouncing back and forth between what the adult had to do with what the kids were responsible for. Inevitably, I decided to list all the steps an adult should perform separate from all the steps a kid should perform. This, in my opinion, seemed to work better as the steps the kids should perform were all listed together, which I believe would made it easier for the kids to
follow.
I also thought that putting the recipe in an ordered numbered list gave it structure, which also made it easier to follow. I felt that this would be perfect for a younger, inexperienced audience to read. I also felt that because of the young age of our target audience, it was necessary to list all questionable tasks like operating a stove, or using appliances, be completed by and adult. The graphic of the little girl with the chef’s hat on cropped from a royalty free image of five (Medina, n.d.). Based on where I placed the graphic, I was unable to add the figure number and any other information, as it would skew the format of the text. I did, however cited the image on the reference page.
This revision is a significant improvement from the original draft, and I feel it is a better read
