Jim Steven’s poem “Schizophrenia” depicts a story of immense loss and hopelessness that overcomes many homes. It is all too ordinary to hear about a father abandoning his family, a mother who is broken and feels defeated, and the children who have suffer through it all in fear and the overwhelming feeling of abandonment. Feelings such as those found in the preceding sentence are found throughout Jim Steven’s poem “Schizophrenia”. The poem reflects the conflicts that occur within the house. However, the crisis that is occurring within the family is addressed indirectly rather than directly, it is addressed through personifying the house. By personifying the house in every facet, “Schizophrenia” reveals the reality of the family’s relationships, or lack thereof.…
In Mark Twain’s, “The Lowest Animal”, he uses Situation irony, Hyperbole, And Juxtaposition to convey that animals are actually more civilized than human beings because they lack these characteristics. In Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut uses irony to demonstrate the destructiveness and depreciations of war. Vonnegut incorporated many cases of irony in his book, and they overall enhance the meaning throughout the passage. One of the prime situations of irony took place with Edgar Derby. This poor man had to endure suffering and pain during the course of the war and the firebombing, only to be executed in the end for a meaningless little crime. Vonnegut reveals a bit of this situation in the beginning of the book when he mentions that the "One guy I knew really was shot in Dresden for taking a teapot that wasn 't his" (1). This shocks the reader because…
Imagine this: a small innocuous girl sitting in the middle of a daisy farm, slowly plucking the petals off of a flower, 1,2,3,4,5,7,6,8,6 until suddenly an omnipotent voice is heard ... 6,5,4,3,2,1,0 and an atomic bomb is blown shattering everyone's ears as well as achieving its main motive, captivating everyone's attention. Believe it or not but this was actually a major advertisement within the negative campaign led by the Democratic Party in 1964, and it proved to be quite effective against the Republican Senator Barry Goldwater. Now this was in 1964 but is evidently present in current events as well. Did you know that Hillary Clinton was at Donald Trump's wedding? Did you know that on Fox TV he'd praised her as, "A terrific woman and was doing a great…
A problem that I have solved, on a singular level, is my impact on the earth. Caring about the earth and its occupants is something I deeply identify with. And as I have gotten older I have been trying harder to create the smallest carbon foot print possible. Towards the end of eighth grade my science teacher explained the current and future ecological status of the world, this being the first I ever received this information. Though the facts I observed left a feeling of uneasiness, I didn't compose any changes. Although, a year later the animal lover within finally came out, I went vegetarian. A narrow step on a path to a healthier planet. I remember in this time I felt terribly guilty and wrong for contributing to such terrible things: death, disease, torture, and devastation.…
“In the United States alone, GMOs make up about 70-80% of the foods we consume. Most foods that contain GMOs are processed foods.” Gmo’s are in everything we eat. Everytime you look in your pantry or fridge you see foods that have been genetically modified to change the appearance, size, and taste. In order to genetically modify something it has to be changed by chemicals that are unhealthy and damaging to our body. 70-80% is too high. New laws should be made to lower the amount of foods that have gmo’s in it.…

Four major political ideologies dominate society: Conservativism, Libertarianism, Liberalism, and Progressivism.
