Red represents blood, danger, strength, and war; however, in this ad it is a dark red so it represents rage, anger, and willpower. The importance behind these emotions is that they indicate that the girl could possibly be losing control of herself. Anger has a way of motivating change in an unhealthy way. The words that are being said to her is “beating her up” and “hurting her” and by the look on her face she is tired of being treated badly like she is. In this creation, the creator intentionally chose a young woman with fair skin so that the pain is more noticeable and shows more vividly. Her posture reveals how uncomfortable she is. The effect of it is, physically abused children are at risk for later interpersonal problems involving aggressive behavior, and adolescents are at a much greater risk for substance abuse. In addition, symptoms of depression, emotional distress, and suicidal ideation are also common features of people who have been physically abused. Studies have also shown that children with a history of physical abuse may meet the criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder. Verbal abuse can occur from children or others who feel as if they have money, look better than others, and are excessively conceited.
