Keith Woods is the son of Verdun P. Woods Sr. who is a black man that joined the military in the 1940s. Verdun P. Woods Sr. had so much love for the country and took pride in the national anthem. The one word that Keith Woods kept using to show his point of view was patriotic. “he'd give the young man a two-sentence lesson in patriotic etiquette.” The author is talking about how his father would be mad at Colin Kaepernick. The word patriotic mean loves for one's country and Woods Sr. would not think that Kaepernick would love this country and have respect for those who gave their lives and risked it all to keep others safe.
Keith Woods told his story by saying what the flag and national anthem means to him and his family. To the Woods family not standing shows disrespect to them and shows that you do not care for those who risked their lives to keep us safe. I feel that people should stand for the national anthem even if you do not like what is going on in the country. It shows respect to those who
