1. Which combinations of substances resulted in a chemical change?
Answer:
The potassium nitrate and the ammounuiam hydroxide had a chemical change. It started bubbling and getting really foggy. The calcium nitrate and ammonuiam hydroxide did nothing. It's all clear still, but no chemical change. The copper nitrate and ammonuiam hydroxide turned a bluish color so that had a chemical change.

2. For each metal that participated in a chemical change, write the type of metal it is, based on your examination of the periodic table.
Answer: Ammouniam Vandrate had a chemical change but it turned out to be a transition metal, no other metal. The sulfates had more transition atoms going through the chemical, more than an original transition atom normally. Doing this showed me also that iron nitrate is an transition metal as well, same with the cobalt, copper, and zinc nitrate.

Copper Cycle Summary During the copper cycle lab, my partners and I performed a series of reactions on copper powder and observed the changes it underwent. For the first step, we mixed nitric acid and copper powder, and noticed that a yellowish brown gas emerged, along with effervescence. The red solid disappeared and became a blue liquid.…

The purpose of this lab was achieved. As a class we were able to take the elements and then test them to find out their individual properties. We were then able to distinguish if the element was a metal or nonmetal based on the property’s we found. We then placed the elements on our own periodic table sorted by atomic order. One metal that I tested was magnesium. I observed that this element’s color was gray and that it was shiny. I also observed the element was malleable, conductive, and that it was a solid. One semimetal that was observed during this lab was silicon. The color of the element was grey and the phase was a solid. We observed that silicon was not conductive and that the element could be banded. One nonmetal that we observed during this lab was hydrogen. This element had no color and its phase state was a gas. The element was not conductive. With these results we can conclude that metals are mostly a solid phase and that they come in a more variety of colors. Metals are really good conductors of electricity and have a metallic luster. Metals also can be ductile, and malleable. We can also conclude that nonmetals can be a solid, liquid, or gas. Nonmetals are a poor conductor of electricity (good insulators) and have no metallic luster. Nonmetals are also not ductile or malleable. From this lab I have also concluded that semimetals have properties like metals and nonmetals, and some are good conductors. Depending on the elements physical properties they were placed at different locations…

The main confusion that the element caused was the containment of similar properties from the metals and nonmetals. When an element can’t be distinguished between a metal and nonmetal due to having properties from both, they then classify as metalloids. Thus, making…

First, the students label the petri dishes, with the elements Mg, Ca, and Al. Next, the students place the different elements on the top of the petri dishes and then filled the dishes with water. After that, they placed each element in the water and put the top on and recorded what happened. Then they opened the dish a put a drop of phenolphthalein on each element and recorded the reaction. The students discovered that sodium and magnesium reacted, but aluminum did not. Sodium turned into a gas when it touched water and then turned pink with the phenolphthalein. Magnesium bubbled with the water and then turned slightly pink with the phenolphthalein. Aluminium had no reaction to the water or to the phenolphthalein. After that, the students washed out the petri dishes and dried them.…

Across the period, the metallic character of the Period 3 elements decreases. This is evident as sodium, magnesium and aluminium, the first three elements in period 3, are all classified as metals. We observed that they display highly metallic characteristics, as they are all solid, malleable and lustrous. On the other hand sulfur, which is further along the period in group 16, is too a solid although it is quite brittle and in powdered form. It is a dull, pale yellow and does not possess the shiny lustrous exterior that one would expect from a metallic element. It is regarded as a non-metal.…
