Addiction is a worldwide epidemic. Many people in all parts of the world have addictions. Whether it be gambling, exercise, illicit drugs, shopping, or sugar. Studies show that nearly 80% of people have some sort of an addiction. I have always found addiction and addictive behavior to be very interesting. Some addicts are believed to have been born with an addictive personality. People born with addictive personalities are thought to form problematic, unhealthy, addictions much easier and much earlier in life. Some even have multiple addictions at the same time. Some people do things like run and exercise every day, but to the point that it is not healthy. When things like running or exercise have become not-so-healthy, it usually goes unnoticed. Most people do not see activities such as exercise as possible problematic, addictive, behavior, but anything that is done excessively can become unhealthy.” The unproblematic addictions are the ones that do not cause any problems. An unproblematic addiction would not cause any type of life disrupting issue and is not life threatening in any way, and those are the addictions that ok to have.…

This is Abigayd Cienfuegos, we met at the campus visit to UTSA last Friday. I wanted to thank you once again for coming with your team, and let us get to know more about Ernst & Young and about your team. It was really interesting to learn more about the friendly culture and the work environment at the firm. Especially learn that as interns we will receive training, and guidance on how to proceed with the assignments we are assigned to. As I told you last Friday I am currently taking Federal Income Taxation. I am also taking auditing and I remember that you mentioned you also help with the audit side, so I wanted to ask you if you based your decision to do taxes on the classes, or something else? As you seemed to like both audit and Taxation.…

As I placed the car into park, turned the key off and stepped into the crisp cold winter air, I begin to feel my pulse raise. With each step we took drawing us closer to the door, I felt my heart beating faster. With a quick turn of the ice cold door knob, I found myself standing in a whole new world. The food, the music, the faces, the language, everything was different than what I knew. For the first time in my life I was the minority in my small home town of Winamac, Indiana.…

“The Storyteller,” by Sandra Cisneros was an enjoyable read that took us along her adventure of becoming a writer. She talks about the many important parts in her life that set the right path for her success. How other friends, family, and other people were of a help to her rising in her career. Thought the article she would describe her self as “she”, which in other words, Cisneros would be talking from a third person point of view. This technique gave the reader the sense that she was telling us a story about someone life, almost like narrating. Which may explain the title of her article. Through her passive tone and storytelling sense it made me consider the career to be a writer. Like when a mom tells a story about a great knight to her…

One would think that purchasing your first home would be a very fascinating experience; after all it is one of the most major purchases of your entire life. In America, home ownership ties in with the American Dream and the spirit of working hard to one day earn through hard work a home with a white picket fence. My husband and I felt that it was time for us to reward ourselves for all the hard work we have been putting in over the years by purchasing our first home, which was well overdue. I quickly learned the process of purchasing your first home can be very frustrating and stressful. However, if you survive the home buying process the reward is priceless once you move into your “American Dream.”…

Life is a history of master narratives, controlling the views of many individuals. The definition of master narrative can seem quite vague, but the values and limitations it holds give it purpose in the world. Whether or not the purpose of a master narrative is acknowledged varies between each person. Master narratives are not always right or wrong— true or false, good or bad— they are a way to marginalize society into thinking a certain way. Master Narratives always have and always will shape the beliefs and knowledge of the world by defining and defying society’s thoughts, emotions, and actions through the stereotypical views of our world.…
