The reason to assist a person in distress is self-evident, conversely, there are several reasons that a perison may not offer assistance to a person who is experiencing a crisis. (Berkley, 2009) One reason that a person may not assist a person in distress is because of diffusion of responsibility. According to the more people there are at the science of a crisis, the less “the less responsible each individual feels.” When there is only one person who available to respond to a crisis, that person is 100% responsible for proving assistance. However, if there are 10 people who witness the crisis, then the responsibly is distributed equally, thus the responsibility is defused among those present. When there are multiply people present, there may be an assumption that someone else in the group will assist, or may have a better skill set to respond to the situation. An issues that may arise if everyone makes the assumption that someone else will assist, is that, no one will lend assistance.
