The Victorian Era featured many changes ranging from the role of women to the design of homes. Many elements of the home design changed from the Gothic Revival style to the Victorian style. The items people decorated with changed, and the way they filled their homes. This era was a beautiful era for so many reasons.
Victorian Era Architecture
Victorian architecture has many gorgeous features that make this style of architecture very distinctive. One feature of Victorian architecture is the patterned bricks. Victorian homes often used what was known as Flemish brick bond, which consisted of alternating stretchers and headers along each course with the headers centered on the stretchers above and below. Houses were also built in terraces as more and more people moved to urban areas. Rooflines were decorated with ridge tiles made of terracotta, which was very ornate. Floor tiles featured geometric terracotta from tiles on the porches and through much of the ground floor. Fireplaces could be found in every room and stained glass was found in the door and a top most windows.
