Video Games
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about video games.
Thesis: Video games have changed throughout the years and now has become a major part in our society.
I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: Video games are used by everyone scientist, military, and of course the casual players. B. Credibility Statement:
1. Video games play a major role in my life, I don’t remember a day without playing at least one hour a day.
2. I spend at least a third of my day playing video games, reading articles or watching videos about video games or news in the video game industry.

Transition: Video games have changed drastically in controls, interface, and graphics since its initial debut.
A. Video games weren’t always as marvelous as today’s video games.
1. Initially video games video were created in science labs.
2. Ralph Baer in 1972 was the first person to get video games out of labs and into homes he created the odyssey.
3. Around the same time atari created the first commercially successful video game pong.
4. 1980 was when color was first added to video games, Pacman was the first colored game to hit the market.
B. The current generation of video games is far more advanced than ever before.
1. Today’s video game industry is pushing technology for innovation, such as motion controls and virtual reality.
C. Video games now a days have a broader audience.
1. Everyone pretty much plays video games, almost everyone who has a smartphone has played Candy Crush, Flappy Birds, Angry Birds, or something of the sort.

A. There are many different types of genres of games. 1. A few of the genres are action, adventure, action-adventure, role-playing, simulation, strategy, casual, puzzle, massive multiplayer online, and etc
B. Just like in music, television, and movies there are many sub genres to the genres
1. Sub Genres in action are shooters, racing, fighting,and others. Shooters are consisted of a character usually in first person with a gun shooting at others such as Call of Duty. However shooters can also be in 3rd person such as in Gears of Wars. Racing games consist of driving a car and racing. Fighting games however can vary in styles such as Street Fighter, Super Smash Bros, and Dragon Ball Z.
2. Adventure games generally consist of a slower paced game and involves exploration, puzzle-solving, collecting items, and a strong story.
3. Action-Adventure games are a combination of action and adventure games that are fast paced with a story line some examples are Legend of Zelda, Tomb Raider, Kingdom Hearts, and Resident Evil.
4. Role-Playing games consist of a person controlling a character or a group of characters. These characters gain experience from battle and advance in skills and abilities. Generally RPGs are involved with saving the world or someone. Examples of RPGs are Final Fantasy, Skyrim, Fire Emblem.
5. Simulation games try to replicate a the real world in some type of way. Sub genres include vehicles, process, and sports.
6. Strategy games are turn based or are real time. Turn based involves taking turns creating plans trying to out think the other player games turn based games can be thought of almost like chess. While real time strategy games don’t take turns and require more action, reaction, and thought. Most RTS are almost war like involving controlling a character trying to make your team win.
7. Casual games are short games that have no story line. Examples of these are Tetris, Candy Crush, and Chess. 8. MMOs are consisted of playing online and generally have a huge player base hence the name
MMO.

Main Point: Earnings in Video Games
Transition: Video games have grown to a point that it is in everyday life. A. Gaming is the second most viewed type of content asides from music.
1. PewDiePie currently has the most subscribers on youtube and produces gaming content.
2. According to The Wall Street Journal “Felix Kjellberg aka PewDiePie makes 4 million a year when he had 27 million subscribers.” B. League of Legends is a popular video game that hosts a yearly tournaments that brings teams from all over the world to compete and see who is the best. 1. The Season 3 World Championships grand finals was held in Staples Center on the 4th of October 2013 which filled the stadium.
2. Lee, Sang Hyeok, more famously known as the professional League of Legend player Faker, he and his team won the Season 3 World Championships. During that year of 2013 he was a 17 year old who made $229,659.26 just from winnings and this doesn’t include how much he makes from being contracted to the team.
C. It is possible to have a career involved with video games.
1. IGN (Imagine Games Network) is an entertainment site that informs people on the newest updates and events that is happening in the video gaming
industry.
2. Twitch.tv is a popular video streaming websites where serveral of people play and broadcast live gameplay and commentary, and get payed to do so.
3. Youtube is also another method of people broadcasting videos that is also another form of a career.
4. Some professional players are capable of making over 6 figures a year. V. Conclusion
Transition: In summary, today I informed you about video games.

B. Memorable Statement: The video game industry has grown drastically over the years, it is almost unimaginable that it has grown as popular as it is today.
