Comparing to find the differences between a piece from the Middle Ages (Perotin: ‘Viderunt omnes’) and a piece from the Renaissance (“As Vesta was… Descending”). Firstly, the piece Perotin: ‘Viderunt omnes’ is created with a polyphonic texture this technique known as organum. Whereas, the piece “As Vesta was… Descending” is created with a technique known as ‘word painting’. Moreover, the theme subject of most madrigals was about love, at times about being light/broken hearted. On the contrary, the piece Perotin: ‘Viderunt omnes’ which was composed by the composers of the Notre Dame church. The piece Perotin: Viderunt omnes’ differs from the piece “As Vesta was… Descending” since while the original chant was sung, a second melody was added
