We have some very exciting news! As you know, we at Saigon Pete’s have been looking into ways to ensure we are able to feed all of the hungry mouths around Tidewater but have not quite been able to accomplish that goal. Well, we can no longer say that! We are proud to announce that Saigon Pete’s will be adding two new food trucks to our existing fleet so we can be sure to be wherever hungry mouths need us. The trucks will be hitting the streets in a few short weeks, and we can hardly contain ourselves; however, we still need to figure out where we can send these new trucks. If you are a fan of Saigon Pete’s, comment below and let us know where you want to see us show up. Parks, businesses, malls, and everything in between is fair game. We simply…
Ho Chi Minh was a communist, who was supported by China. In 1960, he set up the National Liberation Front (NLF) in South Vietnam, which started a guerrilla war to take over South Vietnam from Diem and his American backers.…
One of the great importance to the growth of Little Saigon, was the strong sense of community that was established by the Vietnamese Americans. It was likely that the socioeconomic diversity of the Vietnamese population played an instrumental role in creating such an interconnected occupational structure and enabling them to build a community. They were lumped together as downtrodden “refugees,” which masks their internal differences, such as how they escape, arrived, and the variations in their social economic status. Although as refugees, they did lack material capital, but they however came with a range of human and social capital, most notably the first wave that arrived in 1975. Nonetheless, to see such capital in action, we first have…

In 1945, France controlled Vietnam. However, the communists in Vietnam wanted control, so they fought the French. In 1954, the Geneva agreement ended the fighting and declared Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam independent countries. The agreement also split Vietnam into two countries; communists governed North Vietnam and South Vietnam became a democratic country. North Vietnam reneged and the communists tried to take over South Vietnam, so the American military fought the communists in a battle that became known as the Vietnam War (Barr, 2005). The Hmong in Laos experienced tragic, long-term consequences for their wartime allegiance with the United States by secretly fighting in the Vietnam War.…
The Vietnam War began on the 1st of November, 1955, and ended on the 31st of April, 1975. It was a war fought predominantly in Vietnam, but small battles did occur in areas of Laos and Cambodia. During these twenty years of unfortunate enmity, hostility and combat, the South fraction of Vietnam, fought against the North. The South of Vietnam was predominantly Capitalist, their allies strictly anti-communist, a political ideology which exorbitantly contradicted that of the North sector, which was completely and utterly Communist. This essay will focus on whether or not the United States had plausible justification when entering the Vietnam War.…
North Vietnam helped the vietcong to overthrow the government. In 1965, the U.S. sent soldiers to Vietnam. The U.S. troops had better technology and weapons. The Vietcong fought in small groups that hid in the jungle and controlled most of South Vietnam.…
Confusion glided through me as I didn’t know that the Vietnamese ever went to war again after the Vietnam War. After my relatives elaborated on how catastrophic the war was on the citizens and the country itself, I assumed that Vietnam wouldn’t be ready to return to combat. Also, it was shocking that it only took two to three years for the country to stabilize and rebuild. However, what truly sparked this subject was when I remembered this reason: The Khmer Rouge received support by North Vietnam; the government which fought the Khmer Rouge a few years after the Cambodian Civil War. These components led me to have the ambition to analyze more on this…
The war was a twenty year war starting in 1954 and ending in 1975. The Vietnam War, a long war between North and South Vietnam over communism, impacted all generations by changing the way Americans viewed war and by hurting the Vietnamese people; furthermore, the U.S. presidents during the Vietnam War had many different views, which affected U.S. polices and the country for many years after.…
The Vietnam War is referred to as the “longest and most unpopular American War of the 20th century”(Overview), that lasted from 1955 to 1975. In the US, the war began as a result of the U.S. policy of Containment. This policy’s goal was to prevent the spread of communism throughout the world. The Viet Minh is a communist led…
Ho Chi Minh’s military forces consisted of the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) along with the guerrilla forces of the National Liberation Front (NLF), known more commonly as the Viet Cong. The Viet Cong operated primarily in South Vietnam whereas the NVA operated initially in the North and later throughout the entire…
The Vietnam War was a military struggle starting in 1959 and ending in 1975. It began as an attempt by the Vietcong (Communist Guerrillas) to overthrow the Southern Vietnam Government. This research paper will discuss the Vietnam War, US involvement in this war, and significant battles. Following the surrender of Japan to the Allies in August 1945, Vietminh guerrillas seized the capital city of Hanoi and forced the abdication of Emperor Bao Dai. On September 2 they declared Vietnam to be independent and announced the creation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, commonly called North Vietnam, with Ho Chi Minh as president. France officially recognized the new state, but the subsequent inability of the Vietminh…
Over the centuries there have been many wars in which many lives have been lost and a huge impact has been made upon the United States of America. The Vietnam War was a great loss for the United States and many times it is also called The Resistance War against America. This war was fought between North Vietnam which fought alongside the Soviet Union, China and other communist groups and the government of South Vietnam who fought alongside the United States and other anti-communist nations and groups. . The Viet Cong were also known as the national liberation front , the Vietcong fought while supported by the North against anti-communists in the south. These Vietcong were one of the largest groups of impact on America during this war.…
Throughout the Vietnam War, the Americans used many tactics to defeat the Vietcong. The reason for the American involvement in the war was to prevent the spread of communism. This spread was known as the Domino theory. Two of the tactics used were ‘Search and destroy’ and ‘defoliation.’ Both of these tactics were used greatly throughout the War. As well as this, both tactics were implemented by General Westmoreland.…
The United States attempted to help Ngo Dinh Diem build a new nation in South Vietnam once France withdrew from Vietnam in 1954 by sending military “advisers.” As the United States was helping the south, Ho Chi Minh still had the Vietcong in the south that were getting stronger and more militant. In 1959, the Vietcong guerillas raided throughout the south and controlled most of the area outside of Saigon. When John F. Kennedy took office, the Diem regime was crumbling, so JFK became fully committed to this Vietnam conflict with 16,000 American soldiers in the south by 1963. After Diem and JFK were assassinated, Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon came into office and the social, political, and economic tensions began to tremendously rise. The Vietnam War from 1964 to 1975 was an unpopular conflict that failed its goal to defend South Vietnam led by Ngo Dinh Diem from the Communist North Vietnam led by Ho Chi Minh. Over this period of unrest, Americans began to question the United States’ role in their lives and the world. The vast disapproval of the political decisions among people led to social tensions between mostly young people and the government. Political and economic tensions heightened during the office of Johnson and Nixon with political fraud and economic negligence during the time of the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1975.…
