Macbeth’s Violence Violence is the heart of Macbeth’s play. It affects every character in many ways. It changes the way the audience and characters think. Violence is what gives the play its climax and mood changes. Violence is presented in many ways, good violence, and bad violence. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth is awarded for his heroic acts during war. (Macbeth, np) We could see this as good violence in the play. Violence starts turning bad when Macbeth wants to be the king of Scotland. He decided to kill King Duncan to be the ruler of Scotland. Macbeth had invited Banquo to a banquet. Banquo is now dead but actually shows up to the banquet. In this seen we see that Macbeth sees Banquo’s ghost at the banquet. This is strange because Macbeth is the only one that could see him. We don’t know if his ghost is real or Macbeth has illusions with the violence he has committed. Macbeth starts talking to Banquo’s ghost, and the other characters notice him as strange. They start to suspect that Macbeth was responsible for Banquo’s death. (In Macbeth, np) Violence has now changed the play with all the murders. Macbeth had successfully killed Duncan, Banquo, the Macduff’s family, and young Siward. Violence not only changed Macbeth but also his wife. In one of the scenes we see that she sleepwalks, this is a proof that it has also affected her. She confesses to some of the murders while she was sleepwalking. They ask a doctor to help her, but the doctor cannot do anything about this. We all know that the three witches gave prophecies. Some are good and some bad, but like I mention there is good violence. The audience know sees Macbeth as a bad man, because of all the murders he has done.
