It is comprised of people and opportunities that allow rams to have fun, be healthy, and learn new things. Our job is to make sure that our ram family has facilities to use at whatever time is convenient for their schedules; as well as a staff that can support their needs quickly and efficiently. The gym is by far the most popular facility operated by Rec Sports. Because of this, there are three main areas of staff needed for it to operate: Service Attendant (SA), Weight Room Attendant (WRA), and the managers who oversee everything. Managers and SA’s normally deal with duties at the front desk relating to sign in and item checkouts, while WRA’s make sure the gym is presentable and easily available for use by any patron who wishes to use them. The positions are dependent on one another to maintain a functioning facility that provides the utmost service to all patrons who use it. Due to the this, we all have a special relationship between one another in the workplace. Although we are all coworkers and move as a team together, there are a number of issues present internally that affect how we communicate and treat one another, particularly managers and
WRA’s. The gym staff follows a point based disciplinary system that determines when it is time for a staff member to be fired. Points can be given out for big reasons like insubordination and failure to do one’s job, or very trivial and controversial reasons like calling out sick. Once ten are given out to an individual staff member they are placed on a two-week notice, which means they have only two weeks available for them to work before termination. The flaw in this system is that it is at the discretion of whichever manager is on shift, meaning that although it may be unfair
