Ecovia: Stop the Violence. “Don’t Text and Drive”.
When creating a print advertisement, texts are great but definitely not enough to communicate the whole significance behind the ads, and so, images are the missing pieces. The combinations of images and texts makes a coherent argument as well as the persuasive effects. By using both texts and images, an Advertising Agency based in Curitiba, Brazil, Terremoto Propaganda, created the series of print advertisements about the main cause of traffic accidents that called “Ecovia: Stop the Violence”. However, for this essay, I mostly focus on the one that has a slogan: “Don’t text and drive”.

This ad is mainly created for the drivers, remind them to be careful when participating in traffic. The images are used in this ad is the man being punched in the face which both the face and a fist are painted with a crashing car on it. Then, instead of using very common phrase to warn people such as “be careful!”, the creator creates the very innovative slogan: “Stop the Violence”. The “Violence” in this case means the car accidents due to the distractions when driving. As you can see, both text and visual backings other perfectly. Besides, just for the images, the emotion of the man looks really real, that makes the ad becomes unforgettable, hence, the hidden messages easily get into the viewer’s brain, especially the …show more content…
Logic appears evenly in this print advertisement, from a very small detail. According to the textbook, “a persuader’s goals are implemented in the strategies he or she chooses, and these strategies are put in place using certain tactics”. The same thing happens in this print advertisement, Terremoto Propaganda employs different strategies to protect their argument. For example, for the images, the creator turns the traffic accidents into a simpler thing which is violence and so, everyone can get good grasp of the hidden messages or making the images with many different color also the strategies to get people’s attraction. In addition, in the text, the use of words is also a great strategies from the creator, “Stop” and “Violence” are capital, it demonstrates the importance of stopping the car accidents due to something that actually under human’s control suck as texting, drinking or overspeeding. Besides, using the fact that texting while driving leads to car accidents is a great strategies as well.
