What Is Vitiligo?
In vitiligo white spots or patches appear on the skin. These spots become visible when the pigment cells in the skin gets destroyed or become weak or no longer produced.
Many experts think that vitiligo is an autoimmune-related disorder, but we aren’t sure what causes the autoimmune response. In vitiligo, only the colour of the skin is affected, but the texture and other skin qualities stay normal.
Is Vitiligo Contagious?
NO, vitiligo is NOT contagious at all. Vitiligo is a genetic problem which occurs by inheritance of various genes simultaneously, possibly in multiple combinations among different people. Also, due to the exposure to a wide range of environmental risk factors which remains mostly unknown.

Some patients develop vitiligo bilaterally, which can be defined as if the patches appears on one arm then it often appears on the other arm also. Scientists don’t fully understand the reason behind this. Many people can develop segmental vitiligo, in which the spots appear only on one area or only on one side of the body.
