The boys and girls club have been serving children for 150 years. They have given their helping hand to millions of kids worldwide. The Boys and Girls club’s mission has always been “To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” The Boys and Girl’s club was formed to assist underprivileged children or children who do not live in the best environment. This organization possesses a numerous amount of goals and achievements they want for each child in the program. They provide a safe and fun environment; help create skills for the future and help children build relationships with positive adults. In addition the organization reassures children that they can be successful and keeps them in an optimistic mind set for their future goals.…
For my mandatory volunteerism in High school I worked with the Reading Museum during their summer festival. This worked directly with younger children and involved things such as face painting and the like.…
1) Describe the role of a volunteer working in school in supporting children and young people. You should describe how to establish professional relationships with children. Explain how your approach to supporting might vary according to the age of the children / young people you are involved in supporting for example, preschool, primary, secondary or Post 16.…
By giving your time and showing compassion for the people in need you will help them to feel comfortable getting the assistance that is so necessary to their survival and health. Volunteering is a way to help that has the ability to give back. There are many great benefits to volunteer work, and not only by helping people in need. According to Shayla in Benefits of Volunteering in College, volunteering can also "build your network", "strengthen your resume", and of course give you the knowledge to better understand the people you are giving your time to (Shayla). Building your network will be a vital part of life when trying to find jobs, internships, and make business connections. People you meet through volunteering have the ability to forever affect your life and may well continue to be a part of your life for years to come. What better place to meet people who share the same drive to help others as you do than at an organization who helps feed Americans in need? These hours will not go unnoticed on your resume either. "Scholarship committees love to learn how youth are helping their communities." These hours will not only be valued by the people they help, as you spend time helping others your outlook on life is changed by the skills and real life experience you gain from it. While giving your time you will see that people who are in need are no different from…
The Boys and Girls Club of America helps thousands of Americans each year as a daycare, escape from home, way to meet new friends or to eat a sustainable meal that they wouldn’t be able to get at home. Another way that the Boys and Girls Club benefits kids is by having organized sports where the players can develop competitiveness, teamwork and become coachable. As someone who volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club I am able to experience all of the good that goes on both within and outside of business hours. As I wrap up my high school career and go on to the next stage in my life I often find myself looking back at not only those who helped shaped me into the person I am today but also the extracurricular activities I participated in. The Boys and Girls Club is one thing that continually pops into my head with the activities I partook in as well as the children and adults alike, without these experiences I would not have devolved my love for basketball, been so willing to give back to the community, or have been showed the do’s and don’ts of parenting.…
Through this organization, I was given the opportunity to lead by way of volunteerism and school involvement, participating in over twenty-five hours of community service. I was able to work with organizations like Feed the Children, packaging and loading boxes with supplies for Sandy Hurricane Relief workers, as well as Kaboom, NIKE, and the Absentee Shawnee Tribe in a community playground build for Little Axe youth. I also worked to pick up trash around my neighborhood on two occasions, completing a total of ten hours of community service. At school I emptied recycle boxes of teachers at least once every two weeks and worked in NHS sponsored events like our annual Pi…
I have the experience of volunteering for two times. Both schools that I went to are very poor school as most of students come from neighbor countries such as Myanmar and Cambodia, whom their parents immigrate illegally to Thailand for working opportunity. Also the school director tries to help this children by give them opportunity to study without tuitions fee, which is make financial support from the government is not enough. Therefore, my friends and I went to give the necessary stuffs such as sport facilities and some amount of money that my friends and I did the donation from kind-hearted people. We also educated them in various topics such as teach them English daily use sentences and basic economics in term of how to saving. The reason that I choose to teach them how to saving is I found that their family financial status is not good, so it is necessary for them to use money correctly and make sure that they will not overspending.…
However, according to Sally Brown, volunteering brings these groups together and unites communities through bonding and “mutual understanding” (qtd. in Dykhuis 16). In fact, Pappas states that many youth volunteers get started in service work through church or school. Consequently, these closely knit programs encourage friendship and address areas of each community’s concern (Dykhuis 16). This allows communities to come together through a similar cause whether that be “illiteracy, teen pregnancy, high crime rates, or drug abuse” (Spiegel and Safrit 14). Due to the different opportunities for community service, volunteers are able to understand the barriers between affluent and limited resource areas and use their knowledge of these barriers for further personal and communal…
I am spending my time volunteering at St. Marks United Methodist Church (St. Marks UMC). This church is an open community, working to create a comfortable atmosphere for anyone and everyone in and around the area. I work specifically with the youth of the church and I reach out to students who are my age or younger than me. I have been volunteering at St. Marks for almost four years, assisting in many different groups and organizations sponsored by our church. I volunteer at this church because it has given me an opportunity to be myself, explore talents, and make strong connections, and I want to help continue this effort and reach out to kids who are struggling with a lot of the same difficulties I faced. I believe that volunteering here is a great experience for someone studying psychology because you meet and get to know many kids who are facing various issues in their lives.…
Donating, giving, and sharing are three related values that the majority of households in America all claim to practice and believe in. If this is true, then why is it so often that charities are underfunded? The problem is that many people seek happiness for themselves over the happiness of others. I believe that this is natural in human beings. When we are already so busy taking care of ourselves, I think we forget that other people could use a hand as well. Another underlying factor may be that many of us are not raised around charity. Instead of volunteering at shelters, America’s youth is often found at sports practices or at home fidgeting with technology, and until recently, I was no different.…
Since my early years in middle school I have been a participant in or employed by various youth organizations. My first experience and longest tenure was with the Boys and Girls Club of America in Gainesville, Florida. Through this organization, with its diverse youth population and host of challenges, I developed a passion for the advocacy of underrepresented youth and have continued to seek out opportunities to further my interest. Whether working in an educational setting as I did with AmeriCorps and the After School All-Stars or with a community based service, I have made a relentless effort to advocate for the youth that I serve.…
I was a volunteer for the YMCA at Underwood Elementary School. Here, I tutored students in a variety of subjects at an after school program, Y Learning. My role was to assist students to reach school-system benchmarks and to develop their confidence inside and outside of the classroom. I collaborated and communicated with both staff and students to achieve our goals. Through talking with students, I was able to learn how to best give them individualized assistance in order for them to…
To many, volunteering may seem as a task or chore, but to Stephen Lackey, it all seems fun. Mr.Lackey has a passion to give back to the community. In the article “A Life In Balance” by Stefanie Kure, he has spent countless hours helping the homeless, volunteering at food banks, and cleaning his local church and community. In my article, the author is not convincing that mandatory volunteerism is something that should be instated nationally. It was not effectively convincing because mandatory volunteering was never mentioned and it did not go in depth about volunteering. Volunteering was briefly mentioned in the article and failed to mention any means of mandatory volunteerism. The author does not do an effective and thorough job using rhetorical devices and organization to convince the reader that mandatory volunteerism is beneficial.…
Visiting to Foreign Countries is very interesting! If I had the opportunity to visit a foreign country, I would want to go to Malawi, Africa. It is the poorest country in Africa and Africa has the most severe poverty in the World and the situation is becoming worse. I would like to go there because I would like to help the needy and take care of them. They have feelings, and they are human beings too. We tend to neglect them while they need support from others so they feel someone truly cares about them in this world. They are alive and present in this world, and they deserve something better than starvation and loneliness.…
Who wants to make changes in the world? I do because I want to help others and make the world better. When you help others you’re helping the whole world. You’re helping the world by giving to each other. Giving means (to help) one another when ever they need help. For example: If some one is getting bullied and falls to the ground you should help them. Do not just leave them sitting there feeling left out, being sad, or even walking around by himself or herself.…
