Task 1
The function of assessment in learning and development is to provide a measurable way of planning and supporting students’ progress. Assessment is carried out by means of checks and tests carried out throughout the course. Assessors should provide feedback throughout ensuring that learning is occurring and the learner is at the correct level. It is also important that assessor’s decisions are also consistently reviewed and internally and externally verified.
Assessors must work within the boundaries of the law which are constantly being updated.
“Health and Safety at Work Act 1974”
This act requires employers to follow a number of requirements to provide a safe environment for all staff and students.
“Data Protection Act 1998”
This act is in place to protect all information regarding client record cards; it is our responsibility to insure that secure measures are in place to prevent unauthorised or unlawful access to personal data.
“Safe Guarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006”
This act is to safe guard vulnerable adults and children, and restrict them from anyone who can do them harm. To ensure that they feel safe in their environment.
“Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002”
This regulation is put into place to protect staff and clients from the effects of various hazardous substances that are in a salon. For example: Highly flammable, corrosive, explosive, irritant, harmful and oxidising and toxic.
“Health and Safety (first aid) regulations 1981”
These regulations require the employer to provide appropriate and adequate equipment to ensure that medical treatment can be administered to either staff or clients on becoming ill or injured at work.
“Electricity at Work Regulations 1989”
These regulations are in place to ensure that all equipment is PAT TESTED and all corticated should be up to date and on display.
