Vulvovaginal Candidiasis: A Case Study
The follow up for Vulvovaginal candidiasis is not necessary, however it is recommended in women who have persist or recurring symptoms (CDC, 2015). It is also not necessary to treat sex partner, since the disease itself is not acquired through sexual intercourse. It does occur sometimes that male partner will also have balanitis, which is accompanied with symptoms of erythematous areas on the glans of the penis, pruritus or irritation. Topical antifungal agents can relieve those symptoms. Vulvovaginal candidiasis does occur frequently during pregnancy, only topical azole therapies for 7 days are recommended for pregnant women.

A holistic viewpoint that took into account the fact that the patient was experiencing unpleasant side effects led the nurse to conclude that GP referral was necessary to confirm the diagnosis and also to tackle the concurrent issue of the steroid inhalers and depression. When considering step four, the NP had reviewed the British National Formulary online (BNF, 2010a) and had decided that Fluconazole was the most effective product for this patient as the patient also had a dry mouth because of her oxygen therapy. Even the word “herpes” is a Greek word that means “to creep or crawl” which is the way that the Greeks described the way that skin lesions spread. In Roman times, the emperor Tiberius tried to stop an outbreak of mouth herpes by prohibiting kissing at public events and ceremonies. Soon after Tiberius, a physician named Celsus suggested that herpes be treated by cauterizing the sores with a hot iron.
