Walden Spring Analysis
The sense of place in society is determined by where a person is surrounded. People usually lose a sense of where they are in the current society. Instead they start to synchronize themselves with their surroundings. From Walden’s excerpt “Spring”, it strongly emphasized on the surroundings where a person lives in. “In almost all climes the tortoise and the frog are among the precursors and heralds of this season, and birds fly with song and glancing plumage, and plants spring and bloom, and winds blow, to correct this slight oscillation of the poles and preserve the equilibrium of nature.” It described spring as a series of various animations. There are birds, squirrels, frogs, and tortoises interacting peacefully with the environment, which makes the entire surrounding a place full of vitality. At that moment everyone would probably be enjoying the great ecological balance. More importantly, their sense of place in society is already been determined by their …show more content…
Many people chose to pursue their life in finding the ideal place to live in. Usually people would ask themselves: “What do I want to do?” “What do I want to achieve?” or “What kind of life I want to live?”. According to Walden’s excerpt “Pond in Winter”, nature answers everything in relation to people’s morality. “Nature puts no question and answers none which we mortals ask.” The person throughout the excerpt kept on exploring the environment and seeking to discover his sense of place at that particular situation. For example in the process of exploring the depth of the pond at various spots, he realizes that he want to become a wild fisherman, who is close to nature rather than society. This also symbolized a fisherman that a pond is needed in order to sustain its living needs, which also represents the person’s sense of connection to nature and its sense of determination into lifestyle that he is willing to

By setting goals, we allow ourselves the opportunity to reward ourselves for a job well done once we reach our goal. We must set these goals because, if we have a goal in mind, then we are far more focused on achieving that goal, therefore, we begin to eliminate that lack of focus discussed by Seneca. f) Thoreau presents the concept of “Walden Zones”. These Walden Zones are areas where technology is completely cut out, allowing for absolute relaxation and enjoyment without a screen. As our dependence technology continually increases, so does our need for Walden Zones.…

Nature, as an omnipotent entity, should be given respect from humanity. We rely on nature to sustain our own existence. During the time of your writing Walden, you, Thoreau, stated the standard to take from nature only necessities for survival. Throughout your stay in the cabin near the pond, you did not waste time gluttonously divulging in the many foods that could have been created from the nature in the vast farming area near your home. Many could argue that taking more than you need can help you in the long run; however, while spending time to gain a transcendentalist mindset on life, I have come to the conclusion that doing that will only result in a waste of time and effort. As a perfect example of this transcendentalist ideal, my mother’s garden is grown solely used for home cooking, a custom lost in many homes in our society instead of creating a profit through selling her fruits and vegetables, which would only cause her to put in more effort on her…

“Few people are capable of expressing opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment.” (Albert Einstein) Many people choose not to speak up in public because they feel their own point of view might not be widely shared. Although this may be true, there a few individuals are willingly able to express their thoughts on social issues. Henry David Thoreau’s Walden demonstrates how an individual, like himself, has the ability to confront the problems that manifest itself within a flawed society. Thoreau’s novel Walden chronics the two years he spent living in a cabin near the woods, next to Walden Pond. Many readers may assume that Walden is based on naturalism due to his surroundings in the wilderness, while others might interpret it as a journey towards a simple…

The opinion that self and society are detached from one another is not a new one; in fact, it is an opinion that has been expounded on in the essay “Nature” by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Thoreau’s values of life would, however, be possible to live by for individuals who could sustain a secluded lifestyle. People who have become malcontent with the accepted standard could benefit from living based on his philosophy, because in today’s society the media pays lip service to individualism, but does not act on it. Thoreau exclaims “devote days and nights…

Thoreau talked about how each season that he lived through gave his tiny house and the wilderness a different feel even though there was cracks and it was not completely done. Even though he did not finish his house until the necessary time so he could be warm during the winter, he would always walk down to this pound that was a mile to a mile and a half away from where he decided to put up his tiny house. Within a less than a week he had created a path down to that very pond that he would visit all of the time. During the winter the water would be frozen over with about a inch or so if snow over top of it strong enough to hold his weight on top. But as winter ended spring came into view the sight if the pond would change and he would get to see a totally…

He decided to live in the woods for two years and two months and two days in a cabin he built himself. He done this so that he could find himself. He wrote about his experience in his story called “Walden”. He talks about how he farmed during his time in the woods, and it lead him to make this remark, “Most men, even in this comparatively free country, through mere ignorance and mistake, are so occupied by the factitious cares and superfluously course labors of life that its finer fruits cannot be plucked by them” (Thoreau 1414). Henry Thoreau has got to step back and see how much everyone is caught up in worldly things, and tends to forget what good nature has to offer us.…

In the first section of Walden entitled "Economy," Thoreau develops his ideas of living simply and deliberately. He believed that "it is best to want less," and that "there is no point of living if it is not deliberate." By living deliberately he meant giving each part of life attention, whather in observing humans or nature, and living during "all moments of life." He believed that humans had only four basic necessities: food, shelter, clothing, and fuel. The object of each of these necessities is to "conserve an individuals energy." He also believed that "gluttony is bad," and so we should "only content ourselves with possessions that we need." Thoreau focused on living deliberately, and stated "to settle, and to feel reality in its fullness, is the point."…
