I am a graduate of Kutztown University with a degree in General studies. This degree specializes in Psychology and English Literature.
My grade point average between both Harcum College and Kutztown is cumulatively a 2.78.
The reason for this is due to having an undiagnosed bi-polar disorder that was also unmediated until four years into my schooling at Kutztown. My medication and treatment was very sporadic for the final year of my schooling and my psychologist attempted to put me on heavy medication before trying medications with less debilitating side effects. (Also explains inconsistencies)
I have a disability in mathematics that is documented (within five years). This disability keeps me from being able to comprehend/learn any math above the third grade (basic multiplication). This disability was disregarded by my advisers at Kutztown and subsequently I took many math based courses (especially within my Psychology major.) (Also explains inconsistencies) Work/other related

Throughout these organizations I am either serving as a mentor or using my media skills. For example, with Chapel Assistants I have the opportunity to help prepare for each chapel service but I also serve in the Media Ministry which is responsible for making CD’s for each service, mailing CDs to attendees, and being sure the speaker gets a copy of their sermon. I love the job because I truly get to build relationships with those that attend chapel. Within the Spotlight Network I am currently a reporter in which I report events that are going on campus. This year the Spotlight Network will have its own shows and I will serve as a reporter of the shows. With Howard Players I get work on my acting skills by attending workshops. Alternative Spring Break, was my chance to be able to spend an entire week Mentoring students at Normandy High School which is located in Ferguson Missouri. To this day I continue to mentor those students I met through email. In the Freshman Leadership Academy my freshman year all year I was taught to be a leader and even had the opportunity to travel to China and provide service. Because I am a sophomore I get to use the things I learn to help mentor a current freshman. I enjoyed being with children so much that my first “real-world” paying job was at a summer camp. Between volunteering at the church Vacation Bible School and working at the summer camp I realized I have a great connection with children and can help make a difference in their lives and that is what I seek to do. I have since been employed at a few different childcare facilities along with a music store and book store but no matter what I always found myself returning to working in either a childcare or school…

Each year in November I volunteer at The Basket Brigade. We assemble boxes full of food for the less fortunate to have for Thanksgiving/the holiday season. After assembling the boxes we each take 4-5 and deliver them to anyone who has requested them. This opportunity is very eye opening, it shows you how much a little kindness goes and how thankful people are that you care. I have also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for the last few years. This organization allows you to help pack food to send to children across the…

The first was spent working with the children from the Safe Haven Program. We spent time with the children of this program for the beginning weeks of the summer semester. We sold tomato plants at the Farmer’s Market along with the children from this program, which had grown these plants on the Tuskegee University farm. While working with the children from the local YMCA, we had the children participate in arts and crafts projects, as well as games and other activities. I had the opportunity to spend one Wednesday at the Auburn University’s farm, which was the agency of three of my peers. These disabilities drastically affect my ability to focus, especially on abstract concepts like math which require nuanced thinking and precision. ADHD also affects my organization skills, leaving me scatter-brained and forgetful. Leaves me with social anxiety and feelings of inadequacy, causing me to feel nervous about asking for help or clarification due to the (admittedly unfounded and ridiculous) fear I'd be thought of as "stupid" by my peers, which may have also played a role in my inadequate math grades. Looking back, I feel like I was and am capable of achieving more. I never used these disabilities as excuses for poor performance or justification for taking the "easy way out". My freshman year, I was placed in a "Study Skills" class as part of my IEP, but I felt like this was holding me back as a learner, giving me an excuse to slack off, and boxing me into a category as a "disabled person" who couldn't possibly progress. I was able to advocate for myself and convince my parents and my teachers that I no longer needed support services. I want nothing more but to be a productive member of society, to help inspire others who may be dismissed as lost causes due to their circumstances, and to develop and hone my knowledge into something that can change the world for the…

After I graduated from high school May of 2010, I took some time to think about the career path that I wanted to follow. A couple months after I graduated from high school, I applied for a job at the Early Explorers Head Start in Anamoose, ND. I did not get the job that I applied for but that was okay because the next day I got a call from the School District offering me another job. They offered me the job of the assistant substitute teacher in the Early Explorers classroom. I accepted the job offer and started working in September of 2010. I loved the job so much. There was also something special in the job for me, my baby brother was also in that class. My experiences have been very rewarding so far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. It truly does mean so much to me knowing that I have helped those children learn so many new things in life that will help them with their social and cognitive development.…
