Walking and Great Camping Story
Sarah was alone. She had woke to the sound of a noisy bird calling nearby and from there had started wandering. It was getting dark and the forest was alive with sounds. Birds getting ready for bed, crickets starting up their chirping songs, and frogs in a small pond calling out all in a chorus. She sat down next to a large oak to gain her senses. She was disoriented and had no idea where she was at. Sarah glanced around as she held her aching head. She had to find somewhere to sleep for the night as she didn't know how to get back to wherever she had been. The girl didn't even know how she ended up here amongst all these trees.
After a moment of resting, the girl stood and walked on. After continuing for only a short time, saw a few downed branches that had fallen against another tree. Sarah crawled under them and sat, hoping they'd provide a decent place to sleep. The girl trembled as the darkness wrapped itself around her. Every creak in the trees, every snapping twig, caused a sudden rush of fear. She curled into the fetal position trying to keep warm and make herself feel better. More so than even the noises of the forest, the fear that she had no idea how she got out here, kept her up all night. She kept her eyes open, staring into darkness. Thoughts raced through her head about what happened to her. Why did her head hurt? Why was she in the woods? Did someone actually leave her here? What was she doing before she came to be here? She couldn't remember anything.
Eventually her exhaustion caught up with her and her mind couldn't think any longer, her uneasy stomach could no keep her up. She didn't wake until the sun was bright. She sat up and looked around again as she hugged her knees. Which way should she walk? She decided walking in any direction was better than sitting here. So she crawled out, stood and headed back the way she had come. Sunlight streaked through the roof of the forest in beautiful beams of light. Sarah did enjoy the woods, she loved

The sun shone vibrantly through the trees and I loved the way it complemented the gold leaves. I started to notice the incline to the top of the hill, it was steady unlike the Adirondacks where you go up and down. When I got to the top I saw a spectacular view of the surrounding neighborhoods and way in the distance I saw the buildings of Rochester. As I stood there I admired the pure beauty that lies so close to home. It is hard to believe that a wilderness like this one could be surrounded by suburban neighborhoods. Being higher up and in an open space I could really appreciate the mixture of golds, oranges and yellows it was different than being on regular ground level. I thought to myself ‘’I should do this more often, it’s peaceful and healthy.’’ I felt a certain peace with in me while I’m in the woods, suddenly my phone vibration broke my train of thought. It was my stepmom texting me to see if everything was okay, I replied yes and I’d be back at the trailhead in a short time. The leaves snapped and cracked under my feet on the way back and the crisp fall air made the not yet fallen leaves dance in the trees, it was getting later in the day. I was three quarters through the loop so I was still fine,I wasn’t…

The actions in the story are affected by the setting of the woods and the obstacles placed in her way along her journey. While on her journey to the town the elderly woman encounters a huge log “and shuts her eyes” while she crosses over the log-bridged gap. The author allows the audience to picture the elderly lady in the middle of the log to better portray the difficulties and hardships she must face as she continues on. She also encounters a large black dog that suddenly surprises her “and over she went in the ditch.” The dog creates another obstacle which leads to a helping hand of a passerby thus affecting the setting. These actions show how she is in conflict with herself becoming too old to make the travel to the town without some difficulties along the way. She shows her determination to finish what she started as she continues on through all of the other obstacles and finally ends up at the town. As the lady walk through the woods there are many details of the setting that affect the outcome of the atmosphere of the story.…
