OVERVIEW OF WALLPAPER INDUSTRY
Wallpaper is a kind of material used to cover and decorate the interior walls of homes, offices, and other buildings; it is one aspect of interior decoration. Wallpaper is a passion. Wallpaper tells the onlooker who you are and what your life is all about. Wallpaper is a daring statement which brings a lifestyle of innovation and excitement inside your home. During 17h century, Wallpaper, using the printmaking technique of woodcut, gained popularity in Renaissance Europe amongst the emerging gentry. Towards the end of the 18th century the fashion for scenic wallpaper revived. By the early twentieth century, wallpaper industry had established itself as one of the most popular household items across the Western world. Today no interior is complete without wallpapers, apart from its functionality today wallpapers are more looked upon to create stylish interiors as it offers wide range of designs and color from modern to classical — residential to commercial.

I never saw a worse paper in my life” (Gilman 309). In both works, the walls symbolize entrapment and dead ends, a cut-off from the rest of the world forming real and assumed isolation. Along with the walls, the color of the paint and wallpaper also works to develop the characters’ insanity. “The Yellow Wallpaper” uses the color yellow, surprisingly, as a symbol.
