Everyone has struggles, whether it’s big or small. Mitty wants a more exciting life so he achieves this through imagination. Others may deal with their problems differently. For instance, some may sleep due to stress. Some may pamper themselves with materialistic things or maybe even food. There’s even more negative ways to deal with issues such as alcohol and drugs. And in the end of the day, I believe the author is trying to depict a way someone attempts to get away from it all. I think the author did a great job with this because it seems real. While Mitty is currently out of the world, reality still goes on. People yell at Mitty to pick up his pace when driving and laugh when he talks to himself, especially when he says something as random as “Puppy biscuit.” Also the author incorporates something we all have in common: Wanting to have certain traits, or having someone to look up to. In the story, Mitty in reality just does what his wife says but in his head, he in the captain, he is the doctor saving a VIP’s life, he is someone bold and courageous. In other words, he is someone he yearns to be in real life. Therefore, I find that Walter having a secret life is more relatable than when I first read the
