Prior to visiting, my prediction was that the the museum would be a productive use of my time. The trip was not just rewarding, but it allowed myself to get a glimpse into previous cultures and civilizations. Furthermore, my expectation was that the museum had a lot to offer. My hopes were that I could better comprehend those ancient works. I would do so via observing the museum and all it had to offer. The Walters Art Museum was not only worthwhile but it was also rewarding as i viewed many priceless artifacts. These relics of history gave insight as to what life was like during many of the time period exhibits I explored. visibility of the item. This clarity allowed for the viewer to easily discern the intricacy that many of the items contained. Showing how far along many of these cultures were in regards to technology. All in all, the trip was worthwhile as I gained valuable understanding. The Medieval exhibit had all its items presented in a linear fashion.
This portrayal arranges the pieces by time in a chronological order. Doing so, shows the gradual progression of the civilization and gives insight as to what daily life might have been like. Furthermore, new technological advances were being implemented as time passed. Displaying how even today advancements can make task much easier to do and life simpler. One such example was chainmail armor which consisted of small metal rings bound together. This provided greater protection against any external threats to the wearer. From my voyage through this exhibit, I learned that often times when innovation is common for all people it can improve both the quantity and quality of their
life. The Egyptian exhibits was an integral part of the trip as it was a point of interest and included many of their gods. The Egyptians were polytheist meaning they worshipped multiple gods. These gods ranged from Osiris god of the underworld to Horus god of the sky to Sobek a god with the head of a falcon and body of a crocodile. Emphasizing how religion largely dominated daily life and the society. Their religion was highly dependent upon living one’s life in accordance with their gods supposed ideals. By acting in a manner that their gods would approve, they would be assured gentle judgement by Osiris after death. Through this exhibit I gleaned knowledge as to how religion encompassed Egyptian life.
The visit exceeded my wildest dreams as it was packed full of information and priceless items from a myriad of scattered portions of human history. Where a classroom can show one aspect of history, a museum reveals many others. Through the medium of a museum both ideas and concepts relating to an audience improves. In brief, since the students were allowed to pick their locations, experiences were left in the student’s hands and my decision was satisfactory.
