his time, with factual evidence, of how war is a way in which the money hungry elite in the
United States make profits at the cost of human lives (23,1). His overall statement is sensible,
logical, and eye opening. The statements made in his speech were in 1933, as they still are
today, extremely controversial. One can imagine General Butler’s statements were at his time
just as controversial as Edward Snowden’s are today. It seems both Edward Snowden and
General Butler “leaked” not anti-American non-evidence based propaganda for personal gain,
but provided Americans factual based evidence in attempts to open the eyes of the seemingly
blind vast majority of the American civilian and non-civilian population. Wars waged against
foreign enemies or on a nation’s own citizens is indeed a racket. Perhaps the name and face has
changed a bit since Gen. Butler’s time, however, it is the same sick scam Gen. Butler knew of
and warned about during his time. It is, for lack of better terms, an illusion to drive profits for
large corporations (owners and share holders), politicians, and other select elite officials
(23,1&3)(31, 4)(27,2). General Butler’s insights are completely applicable to the events
unfolding today.
Take for example the modern day United States “War on Terror” (foreign and domestic)
and military involvement in foreign countries. Under the guise of promoting freedom and
democracy, the “War on Terror” is a scam. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the events
of September 11th
were planned by the U.S. government, one should take note that Gen. Butler makes it very
clear that wars are often antagonized then exploited for profit (25,4). Planned/Provoked or not,
the spending on national defense sky rocketed after the events of September 11th
the war on terror was declared. Unfortunately,
