Everyone is fascinated by the stories that alien existence are present, whether in films or books, science-fiction novels are always the best in entertaining readers or viewers. The book “The War of the Worlds” is a sci-fi genre book that was written by Herbert George Wells or H.G. Wells, which was also the author of the different sci-fi books and named the genre of his early novels as “scientific romances” and one of them is these novel, The War of the Worlds. The book was published by William Heinemann on 1898 and the book gained an award, Locus Award for Best Art Book because of the illustrations it has. The book also had a movie adaptation on 2005, the title of the movie is “War of the Worlds” starring Tom Cruise as the main character fighting

The characters that can be found in the book are the following: Narrator, the Narrator’s brother, the Martians of course, the Curate, the Artilleryman, Mrs Elphinstone and Miss Elphinstone, Ogilvy, Henderson and Stent, and the last one is Lord Garrick. Each and every one of the them played an exciting role to make the story colourful, also the book that the researcher has is quite different from the original one, what the researcher has is the version of The War of the Worlds which was published by Lampara Publisihing House Inc. so there might be a difference in the story when the readers are going to read what I am reading. The story started with the narrator was explaining something about life in other planet that have been watching the planet closely and then one day a cylinder came from the sky and when it was opened, a giant greyish and roundish creature came out of the cylinder and that was the start of the invasion.
The narrator saw it all and he ran from terror because of the heat ray that the Martian machines used against them. The narrator met different people in his journey from running on the Martians but some of them were either dead or missing, but the narrator still continue on his journey. The narrator’s brother was in London at that time and at that moment, the Martians are still on their journey to London destroying the cities that are on their way. Before the Martians reached the London, the people in London already evacuated and then one day the narrator was also in London. The story ended when the narrator saw the machines of Martians down on the road and the Martians was being eaten by dogs and some of them are dying, and the narrator suddenly realize that the Martians were not prepared for the bacteria that the Earth can give to them thus making them vulnerable to it and making them dead, and then the narrator was reunited with his wife and that is the end of the
story. All in all, just the title can make everyone be intrigued due to the fact that it is a war of different worlds and it can be aliens or things that anyone could not imagine. The structure and content of the story can make everyone hooked on the story immediately not only because it is aliens and it is entertaining but also the view of the story. The story was narrated by the narrator which makes it more realistic and truer to life. It was a good book for everyone and if anyone wants to read some sci-fi book, the researcher would absolutely recommend this book for sci-fi lovers like the researcher.
