the doctor who delivered her used forceps and injured her scalp. She developed an infection in her scalp. There was an cure for the infection but the nurse didn’t tell Melba mother because she was black. They only way she knew there was a cure because of the janitor that was cleaning in the same place they was at. He told her that epsom salt and water will cure the infection out her scalp. Since the nurses didn’t want to help, mother Louis took care of it herself. Melba was also in plenty of danger by white kids and didn’t try to fight back. One day, Danny saved her from a flaming stick of dynamite thrown by a white student. She was even beaten up and told but didn’t no faculty member see it so they didn’t do anything about it. Even tho Danny see everything but his job wasn’t to tell what happens, his job is to keep Melba alive. Melba could have been lost her life in Central High but Danny didn’t let it happen. Melba Pattillo Beals took plenty throughout her childhood life while attending to Central High.
She was going through a lot of problems and even wanted to harm herself because of the problems she was having during school. In September of 1960, Central is again opened to integration, but only two of the nine students are readmitted. Melba got married to a man named John and had a daughter named Kelli. Then they split up seven years after their daughter birth because Melba wanted to be a reporter and work but John wanted a house wife. In my understanding in this novel you should never give up and always keep reaching your goal until you succeed the progress of what you reaching
for.
